Pete in W'berg - That's gonna be a cool layout,

Dave C - still waiting for my CTT with your photos.

Nice photos from some of our "newbies" and also from some of our ol' favorites.

Fife - yep made good progress this morning/afternoon. I have decided to change it a little because the 1/2 sections are really sagging bad, the full sections are holding up nice, so if I redo the 1/2 sections as full sections (outside framing) I'll be good to go. Thumbs Up [tup] If you open the pic you will see the sagging sections.

I should have a running loop of track tomorrow! Thumbs Up [tup]

--- btw, while I was at the PA RR Museum yesterday they had a metal loco mailbox. When Susieq saw it she said 'Hey this looks like Fife's mailbox in his pic!'  And still refuses to admit she's a train nut! (OH favorite quote from yesterday - 'This is someplace you can bring your kids for hours... much more interactive for kids than the B&O Museum').

The citizens of Flath-Earth Piedmont are starting to see some building taking place.  They still don't have electricity in these parts, but they hear that an electrical co-op was recently formed in the region and there is talk of lines being laid in the near future.

Of course the people of Flath-Earth Piedmont have their priorities straight in terms of what to build first.

But some people can't cook so...

Plenty of parking for the commuters:

And local commuter rail service:

Yes, it's a beautiful place to live.

Enjoy,

Great pics everyone!

I went to the annual Train Show in Savannah today and went to were Memory Station was selling Lionel. I was looking around and saw these:

I've always wanted that CSX SD-40 with LEGACY so I picked it up for $400.

Cant wait to try it out with Legacy! (Its at my other house, I stay here on the weekends, and go to my other house on the weekdays to go to a private school, its 60 Mi away)

I also took a picture of this, since I thought it was the same Laz has, it was selling for $1075.00

NICE pics all.

GRAYSON, great pickup, you'll like the SD40.  I got mine in a NS Livery, but don't tell the CHIEF, and yes at slow speeds the ditch lites do oscillate.  Good luck with you find.  BTW I got my FEF for much less say about 175 less.

Great pics folks!  No toy trains this week, but I did find out how to download the pics off my cell phone to my computer, so here are pics out the front of the building where I work and then out back.  We are between the highway and St. Louis Union Station.  Out the front, you can barely see the big train yard that is in front of the Amtrak station:

Behind us is the Metrolink with Union Station and the Post Office:

Some really good photos this week.  Now to get back up stairs and do some more wiring. Must be done but does not lend itself to great photos.

HEY! That locomotive looks familiar...I have the exact same one Big Smile [:D]

One excellent locomotive. In all of Lionel's GP38's they've made over the past six years, this is the best looking one for sure.

I'm making streetlights.

I'll leave them unpainted to imitate the brass highlights on classic tinplate trains. I'm getting better but they're taking me longer to make than I would like.

Laz, it turns out only the NS versions have occilating ditch lights. The catalog doesnt say it has them and only the "Features" section of the manual says occilating ditch lights. I emailed Lionel about it.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto]

The SD40-2 is one of the best locomotives of all time, in any paint scheme. I think that new version of CSX's paint scheme is their best yet.

Why doesn't the CSX version have the flashing ditch lights too? I've see one of these exact locomotives in real life and the ditch lights flashed on it. IIRC, I think the NS and CSX are some of the only Class I railroads that have flashing ditch lights anymore, besides Amtrak.

Thank you traindaddy, and Wes. I remember the 3rd Avenue el too, but riding under it in a bus going to Alexander's with my grandmother in the mid 60's. Those are the types of memories I have, and why I like to model (if you can call it that) an urban, rather than a rural type scene. To be honest, plunking down buildings is a lot easier than making paper-mache mountains and resin lakes, too, lol! Here are a couple more:

As you can see, this is only 4x8, so I'll soon run out of new photos to post:

Well Lady, looks good.  Now as for CSX, I make them black and turn them into NS.  Ask Colin what I did to that CSX switcher.

Thanks Ray! You know I like idolize your layout, so when one of the "big guys" says something nice about a duffer like me, it means a lot. :-)

My last "project" was laying down some $3 colored tape to make lines in the street. Sounds silly, but it did make a difference, lol! The biggest thing I can undertake now would be to make some real-looking el pillars like yours (or buy them here: http://www.steeltoys.com/) so that I can have cars driving UNDER the el, like they're supposed to. I have to say, the best train I ever bought was that MTH subway set. I'm having a lot of fun with it. I was lucky enough to find the #6 IRT line, which ran just a few blocks from where I grew up, and which I used to take with my mother a couple times a year back in the early 60's, when we'd go "downtown" to shop at the big Macy's at Herald Square. One of the stops it announces was the stop we lived nearest to, so it's a blast. And when you put it on "auto" and just let it run, and it stops every couple minutes, and makes station announcements from your old neighborhood, wow!

By the way, does anyone know how to change your user name? It occurs to me that in 30 years I'll be a wizened old woman with the name "NewbieLady." I might as well change it now to "Old Broad." ;-)

Newbie Lady: Hi, again.  Quick question: I've been looking at Plasticville and K-Lineville for multi-story buildings. Who made yours?  Many thanks.

Traindaddy,
All the buildings are MTH, which can always be found under MSRP online. The only exceptions are the building flats in the back, which are Ameritowne flats customized and painted by this company:

http://www.elfinmodels.com/

They are great to deal with over the phone. They make commercial and industrial area looking building flats that they can also make into full 4-sided buildings, or 3" deep lighted boxes, for areas where things are tight. You should really check out the website. I wish I had seen it earlier. The MTH ones are really nice looking, but some can take up a lot of room. The Elfins are nice and narrow, but still 0-scale, and because they don't have attached sidewalks, that uses less room too. Hope this helps!

Is that the rail diesel car from Ready Made Toys? If so I have the RDC in Reading Company paint scheme, nice unit and runs good.
