The day the 4449 Southern Pacific Daylight came to Milwaukee

One of husband's favorite locomotives is the 4449, so when he heard it was coming to Milwaukee in July of 2009, we had to see it.

The engine made a trip from Portland, Oregon to Trainfestival 2009 in Owosso, Michigan and had a number of stops along the way. Milwaukee's stop was at the Amtrak station.

A few things impressed me that day:

* How BIG that engine was. It's impressive to see such a beast up close.

* How many people had gathered to see it. While there were people of all ages, I wish there had been more families and youngsters. Seeing a photograph on an iPad just isn't the same.

* How close we could get to the engine. Many people were posing next to it (including my husband).

Enjoy these photos I took on that day. Click on any of them to enlarge!

Coming up on the engine. We parked in a nearby lot.

Cab view.

Cab and part of tender.

A little bit of steam. . .

Followed by more steam! Awesome.

That's my husband taking some photos.

Another cab.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Presence!

Lots of people were posing for photos.

Straight-on view.

My hubby with one of his favorite engines. I wish I had posed too.

I don't remember taking it, but I'll share it anyway. Bonus Amtrak engine!
