Howdy Rob

Just a quick note about those pix fix software bundles - all of those that I checked into are truly overkills if all you want to do is edit some photo's now and then. There are several available on the net that will provide a free download on a trial basis - usually 30 days. They do the trick as well. Just do a search on photo editing or some other combination of words and you'll find 'em. One that I liked is called Professor Frankllin - not quite as extensive with the things I required to fix my self-inflicted digital shots - but sufficient to fix most things. [yeah][yeah] Ring the bell Boris [#offtopic]! [swg]

Really looking forward to our May Rendezvous and it is my hope that all of the guys who have committed to it, show up. The more the merrier as they say.

[yeah] We've got a few guys 'round here with expertise that goes a long way - you're one of 'em! [tup] It's a strong selling point for "Our" Place to have this kind of information and dialogue available. Makes me chuckle a bit when we get the occasional interloper in here who for whatever the reason decides that we're this or that and never takes the time to check out the posts. Their loss, I'd say ...... I appreciate the input from all of our customers, even if I'm not particulary into the aspect of railroading they're engaged in. Makes for interesting reading and engages the brain cells a bit ....... [tup]

Awwwwwwright! Your Birthday Bash is scheduled for Saturday, September 10th at 10 PM (Eastern)[tup][tup][tup]

Catch ya later!

A happy good evening gentlemen.Tom I'll tkae a kieths and some beer nuts tonight I think. Thanks for the software answer. I have seen said program used by friends and it is a nice one, unfortunatly it is overkill for my poor elderly PC. Too pooped to participate or at least run that program. I was offline most of yesterday due to some rather abnormal weather for my local. Wicked thunderstorms and tornado warnings. An F2 ripped through northwest of me made quite a mess of Fergus Ontario thankfully no one was hurt. Lots of trees and barns suffered though. Ted and Tom Not to worry you can just watch me or the rest of the operating crew do our thing at the museum in May.[tup] Ted all our switches are genuinly the self lining spring type so it's easy to stay on track[tup] though slow running through is the safe way. you will fingd that the deadman control on the whitt is much less, difficult than on the PCC's. With the PCC you must balance the left peddal 50% depressed to allow power to be run.On the Whitt's the deadman is the controller itself you apply downward pressure ( constant ) on the contoller itself. With either car type once the pressure is removed or in the PCC's case increased beyond balance then the car goes into emergancy and stops. sand deplouys and the PCC yells at you with bells. No Boris don't too late oh well I'll grab around for the house. OhTom By the way as to my upcomming birthday bash I'm thinking the 10th ( sat after the day ) would be best for me. Shall we say 10pm my time (eastern) Tell Nick and Cindy not to go to estreme on food. Finger foods and suds would be best[tup] Al wow what a bonus for you to have someone living so close to add to your already bottomless knowledge of passenger cars and trains. Between you and coal miner we are truly blessed. The gentleman sounds alot like Jack Knowles one of our museums founders.Even at his 80+ ( RCAF vet to boot ) he can tell you the size colour scheme bondy arrangement of any streetcar interurban or bus run in Canada. One heck of a nice guy and he's written a few decent books on the subject as well. If you ever see books authored by John D Knowles grab them up!! Ted and Tom and everyone else keep safe from those skeeters. west niles no joke for sure. I always carry deep woods off with me if I'm going into the wilds for any reason. Doug Hope your Thomas weekend went off allright. We are still trying to line one up, the downside in our case is track guage. All the museum track is set to TTC guage of 4 foot 10 and seven eights. We have the space and infrastructure but the tracks a problem. Well gentlemen i'm going to run. Bye for know. Rob

Evenin' Gang!

Just a couple of replies before I check out for the nite ... Leon the Nigjt Man has the bar! [tup]

Trainnut484 Russell This trip to KCity for me will be a rather quick round trip on Amtrak. If on time - which it hasn't been the past several months it will only provide a relatively short time at Union Station. Nevertheless, things can change and I'll keep you apprised ot the date as it becomes known. I'd hate for you to make plans to meet up with us only to get short changed on the time. At best we'd only have 2 hours before having to reboard ......

Catch ya later!

Tom

sammythebull [#welcome] Aboard! I checked your profile - not much there - so it's a bit difficult to know who we're talking to ..... anyway, feel free to browse our profiles and get to know us.

That's a fine submission you provided and you're off to a good start! [swg] Thanx!

As with all new customers at this cyber bar 'n grill - there's a lot to learn - so I suggest you start at the beginning - check the posts - read the SUMMARIES and perhaps you'll find us interesting enough to hang 'round a bit ..... [tup]

A good way to fit in 'round here is to make sure you've read up on what has been posted since your last visit AND to always greet the barkeep - and of course, order a drink. That's what makes this thread different from the others - we like to acknowledge one another (the purpose of my reply to you, for example) and have a bit of fun while talking Classic Trains! [tup]
First drink is on the house! [swg]

pwolfe Pete

Evenin' ! Good to see you again ... I'm rather unclear regarding our friend Nick and his participation with us .... seems rather sporadic these days ......

Unless I'm mistaken, your Email does not show up in the profile - it's a way of maintaining your privacy with that. If someone wants to send you a message - they just click that portion and a screen will pop up enabling a message to be sent through the Forum (Kalmbach). Now, if you want to provide your Email address each time you post (as in your signature), that can be accomplished by editing your profile and adding whatever you wish in the appropriate spaces marked for signature.

Boris is in the kitchen - the gals of "Our" Place are workin' the tables - so enjoy your evening!

See ya! [zzz]

Reading on history of psgr trains, my favorite location on the train would have to be either the cafe car or the diner. I was born in 1963--towards the end of the golden rr age. Spent lots of times during my first decade of life at my Aunt Ruths old house at 1413 N Santa Fe in Wichita directly across from what was then the 3rd District SF mainline of the old Middle Div. I can clearly recall the old F units, SW switchers--some still in the old black & white, stock cars, ice bunker reefers, 40 foot wooden bxcars. What I believe was most enjoyable was watching some of the old SF psgr fleet pass by. The ones I would have seen from about 1966 to when they were abolished was #12 the Chicagoan about 0800, #16 Tx Chief about 2115 hrs being pulled by red & silver warbonnets. There were a set of mail trains by during the day and REA & SF express cars and a green heavyweight coach on the rear would pass by. This was my favorite era of railroading. Although I was still young I have the memories but wished I would have kept some type of detailed written record on what I witnessed. Enjoy reading books on pre Amtrk era and books w/a history theme to it. Not really into modern day railroads. When I have some vacation time later in the yr,plan to begin a research project by going to the library and making a record of old newspaper microfilm articles on the history & development of all the rr's that operated in Wichita. This will be a long drawn out project but it will be worth it to get this data documented for future generations. I have the dates I need to look up, just need the free time to get it started. At some later time I'll share memories of the Rock Island, Mopac and Wichita Terminal Assn from my perch on aunties front porch from 35-40 yrs ago. Time to go back to my coach seat.

G'day West Coast S Dave

Good to see ya again ... the draught is cold and the company, Cindy warm! She looks a hulluvalot better behind that bar than I do ....... [swg]

Would love to see those vintage diesels - if there is in fact going to be an exhibit - in KCIty. As it stands now, it's just a matter of scheduling, then pwolfe Pete and I will coordinate our plans.

Sounds like your Saturday is off to a fine [?] start ....... crime happens! [swg]

One of these days I'm getting over to the Transportation Museum - it's only about a 15 minute drive - if that - from where I live. Just have to do it ..... too hot right now, but when the cooler temps arrive, it's a go ........ [tup]

Hungry [?] Well, we've got a reefer full of steaks 'n fries and of course our rather large and filling sandwiches. Just tell Boris what you want ........ [yeah] I know, he's a bit much, but what can you do with the unpaid help[?] Room 'n board 'n inflatibles is all he requires. [swg]

Appreciate the round ...... [yeah] - Catch ya later!

Afternoon Tom and the gang... assigned to watch duty today.. Let's recap my morning thus far: Assist with a armed robbery in progress call (false alarm) take a jaunt to the firing range, surprise, surprise they had the Osama Bin Laden targets today [:D][yeah]

Next time i'm going to enlarge some photos of select UP Heritage units and use those instead :-^][:-^]

I recall reading about the pending KC exhibit, details are fuzzy now , appreciate an update if any group members plan a visit. Here's what I can recall: There was considerable debate as to the equiptment being native to the railroads of the area, perhaps the St. Louis Transportation mesuem could be persuaded to donate 1522 for display, a crying shame she had to be retired from excursion service. The world we live in today I guess..

One ring of the bell Boris. Off to check the leftovers that I know are stashed somewhere around here, cold and on tap sounds good this afternoon.

G'day Guys!

Just popped in to see if Cindy needs my help .... looks like she's got the place under control ...... man oh man, she's looooooookin' goooooood today! [}:)][:-,] Almost makes me want to go back to college and listen to her lectures! [swg]

trainnut484 Russell

It was pwolfe Pete who was commenting on a vintage diesel exhibit supposedly coming to KCity's Union Station ... neither of us could find anything on it. We're going to hook up for an Amtrak round trip, perhaps next month - he'll join me as we stop in JCity ......

Thanx for the URL and enjoy this fine day!

***

The most prototypical HO RDC's that I've come across are the LifeLike Proto 1000's. I've got 10 of 'em in my inventory - VIA Rail and BC Rail on the Can-Am layout and 2 Dominion Atlantic in the display case - they look great! Of course, now that I'm a veteran cab rider with the Trinity Rail Express, I'll have to petition them to get LifeLike to market a couple of theirs - like RDC's 2011 & 2013 perhaps! [tup]

Hope you've been able to review the pix I posted and my report - check out what you've missed *** before the info simply overwhelms you. The new format for the SUMMARY should help ........

Your Email was replied to ...... Thanx! [tup]

FOR: trolleyboy Rob Sorry I didn't answer your inquiry earlier - but the software that I've come up with to help correct the self-inflicted wounds to my digital pix is called The Printshop Deluxe (ver. 20) by Broderbund. It's definitely an overkill - way too much capability, bells 'n whistles for the likes of me ... however, it does contain the photo editing features that I require - so the $50 was worth it. Got it at CompUSA.

[yeah][yeah] I know [#offtopic] - ring the bell Boris!

Cheers all!

Good morning Y'all
Jost got back from breakfast with my daughter so I will pass on the coffee and pasteries. Got a few comments on the RDCs.

In our faily we have model RDCs in three gauges: HO (Athern), O (Lionel), and G (Aristocraft). All three have a different number of windows with Lionel being the shortest and least number of windows. Did a count on 1:1 gauge at Trinity Railway Express and the G gauge model has the correct window count.

Just a little pont to ponder. Better get back to the grand chilren.

Cheers,

Hello Tom and everyone [:)] Can't stay long. I'll just have a cup of java and a danish from the bakery

I can't remember if it was you Pete or Jeff that was asking about the KCRails exibit coming to Union Station here in KC. I don't know what passenger cars will be displayed, but it'll start on Sept 23 and will be open from Wednesdays thru Sundays. The station's website www.unionstation.org has more details.

Take care,

Morning Gang!

I see a few responses are in order before I get to the SUMMARY, so with a cup of Joe by my side and some freshly baked goodies from The Mentor Village Bakery, here we go ......... [tup]

barndad Doug That Thomas train stuff has really caught on, eh? I remember when those wooden toys hit the market. One of my grandson's received a set AND a huge track and table outfit to go with it. Today, it's an empire! He' s into electric trains now, but still guards Thomas from his sister 'n brother as if they would do it harm! [swg]

Hey, train talk is train talk and very much appreciated in this place of ours. Perhaps a pix or two of Thomas would liven up the joint ....... Thanx! [tup]

Ted That's some interesting interaction you have going with passengerfan Al. I feel as strongly about the not-so-subtle differences between Athearn's RDC's and LifeLike's Proto 1000's as you do about these Broadway Ltd cars. Just one of those things that we MRR's somehow and sometimes get all wrapped around the axle with. [swg]

Regarding the West Nile - my bride is a gardener and loves working in the yard - even in this oppressive heat. We spray with DEET prior to yard work - for the virus has been in these parts for a couple of summers. Many dead birds, horses and a few people - not all as old as YOU! [swg]

Gunns Kevin I don't know how to break this to ya - but a breakfast Buritto, with pork, taters 'n eggs is NOT a light breakfast! HOWEVER, this IS your lucky morning - CIndy is going to work the day shift for me and is quite the Chef. So, she's going to take care of your order! [swg]

With all the restoration work that you're into - do you ever get to travel aboard these beauties[?] If so, tell us all about it.

passengerfan Al Ditto's on the great interaction with Ted - that's precisely the kind of thing that we encourage 'round here. Just want to ensure that all of us get included ..... and since we're about Classic Trains, that shouldn't be a problem. [tup]

What made those trains Classic in my opinion, was the attention to detail that you and Ted are discussing. Can you imagine that in today's Amtrak operation[?] I see it with VIA Rail and it really shows well. A bit of care goes a long way .......

Okay, gotta get going ...... [tup]

Good Morning Tom. Time for Coffee and one of those diet pastries from the Mentor Bakery.
Teds will go back over the CZ cars and look at the points you mentioned but the skirting looked very good to me. The CB&Q was the only railroad that ordered Budd cars with full skirting and did so right up to their final order for cars. Most other RR's ordered partially skirted cars with the skirting eliminated around the trucks. CB&Q and the other owners of CZ equipment all purchased the cars with full skirting.
Now for the shasowline AT&SF cars. Santa Fe operated two Cascade series smooth side 10-5 sleeping cars that were built for Pullman Pool service. The two cars spent most of their AT&SF operational careers in Kansas City - Chicago service. The two cars became AT&SF owned after WW II and were named CASCADE MILLS and CASCADE SHOALS. Neither of these cars ever received shadowline striping.
In June 1942 Pullman Standard delivered 26- Valley series 6-Section 6-Roomette 4-Double Bedrooms sleeping cars. These were the last smooth side sleeping cars built for AT&SF service. Identical cars were built for the Erie, UP, SP, C&NW, MP and IC all built to the same Pullman Plan 4099 in Lot 6669. Their was a total of 106 cars built to thie same plan and lot number making it the largest single production run of one car lot by Pullman Standard in the Streamline era.
These cars probably would have been built with fluted stainless streel panels for the Santa Fe but by June 1942 stainless steel was already being controlled by the department of Defence.
After WW II the cars came into AT&SF ownership and they were painted in several color schemes. All Grey, Two Tone Grey, Aluminum and several received the Shadowline striping scheme. Their first assignent in AT&SF service was to the CALIFORNIA LIMITED for 23 of the cars they operated Denver - Los Angeles, Kansas City - Los Angeles, Chicago - Los Angeles and Chicago - Oakland service.. The other three were assigned to Chicago - KC- Tulsa service.
I will look and see which cars of the group actually received the shadowline stripe scheme, I have that information somewhere.

barndad good luck today, dont get the "blues" <g>

Ted, We have a 2-10-4 in the park in Santa Fe, the 5030, and my CMO is casting covetious eyes on it as the next to be restored after the 2926..... it has the same tender and was built the same year as the 2926. <g>

Today is a work session, so I'm off to cut more bearings.

G'Mornin' everyone, Tom don't stand up, I'll just mosey over to the urns and pastry shelf; splash some Joe and claw a Bavarian, ah that's got it. Al, thanks for taking the time for giving the CZ cars "the once [or twice] over." I was uneasy with the marker lights on the boat tail (over sized?) and skirts on all of the cars, also the stancions for the antenna appear "over" scale. The trucks seem so spare of detail as to be generic. Yes, the diaphrams are incorrect but that's easy to fix. Now, to the window frames on the dome. Are they too wide (heavy) for the size of the lites? I'm not a pedant on these matters; they are darned good looking cars. I just want to check with a "trained (pun intended) eye" for closer scrutiny, thank you Sir.[tup] Sounds like you hit a "gold mine" with your new neighbor.[:D]

Gunns, pure coincidence but the "thread just before "Our" Place today, has info on "brass" HO ATSF 2-10-4, "longest wheelbase steam in U'S." Also, there is an example of "shadow stripe" painted ATSF 80' standard Pullman on www.branchline-trains.com. Find and click on "Blueprint Series," click on Passenger cars, find "Pullman." Wow, is it a weird looking "Duck!" SLSF used "shadow" on some of their smooth sides, didn't know ATSF did also.

[C=:-)] Nick, "...be good, have fun?" Isn't that an oxymoron? Yes, West Nile is no joking matter![:O] Only 3 have died from the virus but that's 3 too many. They were elderly, so I'm safe...yeah, sureTed.[:-^] At first I thought it was some sort of terrorist plot, OOooh![:I] Rob, great mail![(-D] Keep 'em comin'!

Okay Tom, hate to eat and run but the Legion needs some help again. Oh well, maybe my reward will be at that "great repo depot in the sky?" See ya's later, Ted

Good morning Tom and all. I'll have tea and a light breakfast please.
It's raining here in Chicagoland, which is something that we need, but it throws my weekend morning ritual off as I usually get around by bike. My usual Saturday consists of riding to Richard Walkers for an apple pancake, and then to the train museum in Union. It's about a 17 mile trip through some really nice country. I pass the stable in Woodstock where my wife keeps her horse ( a Paint named Apache). After she does her usual morning routine, she goes to the stable to ride with her friends, and then picks me up sometime in the afternoon from the museum. Then we share a late lunch before returning home to our other animals ..... our kids. It's a nice schedule that we've come to enjoy, but the one thing that can throw it off ... is rain. Rain keeps us both from riding.
Rain also effects revenues at IRM, and we really can't afford that. This is one of our Thomas weekends too. Like most museums, we rely heavily on profits from Thomas. Fortunately, Thomas tickets have been selling since May, but this weather will definitely have an impact. I know this isn't exactly classic train talk, but revenues from Thomas are what keep our classic train museum alive.
Have a great day all.

Evening Tom,
More cofee.....
Sorry work has me running, we are doing an air start system replacment. That brings to mind... How were equipnebt upgrades handled? As far as I know the AT&SF had a long transition period where heavy weights and smoothsides opperated together, and then a period where smoothsides were "shadow painted" so as to opperate in the same trains as the stainless streamliners. Also I understand that many cars were retired to MOW status.

Trainnut484 Russell I've moved my status reports to the Museum thread, but be assured all is progressing. Current work is refurbishing the brakes on the tender. In other news members of our club are going to be in Amarillo to help move the "Madam Queen" former AT&SF 5000, a one of a kind 2-10-4. they are going to move it in to a glass display building.

more after rounds,
Gunns

Evenin ' Gents!

I see a good number of track gang guys are at the pool tables - steaks 'n fries are being served and the pizza ovens are perkin' - all the makings for a good Friday nite! [tup]

Ted Certainly understandable regarding the West Nile virus - no point in taking unnecessary chances. The garden RR can and will wait. We too are experiencing a humdinger of a hot and dry summer in mid-continent USA - blast furnace temps again today. The Fall surely cannot get here any quicker as far as I'm concerned! [tup] Enjoy the gin & tonic with a twist! [swg]

Al Never really figured you'd run that list of equipment that coalminer3 posted. Nonetrheless, between the two of you, that's mighty interesting info for those of us who appreciate the subject 'round here - Classic Trains! [yeah]

Thanx for the rounds TWO [wow] - Boris go ahead and ring the bell! [swg]

By the by - your Email response was received. [tup]

Regarding the person you have just met who was with Pullman - perhaps you can steer him onto our thread. Never know until you ask.

Gotta get those bar orders taken care of .......

Hello once again Tom Guess I'll have one more CR and give the house another round.
Just did a quick look through my CZ plans for Ted and compared them with the Broadway Limited CZ cars on their website and Ted even using a magnifying glass I must admit they really look good to me. Checfked window sizes and placements the cars that Ishowed complete broadside and the only thing I found wrong was the diaphragms. The CZ used full width diaphragms. The trucks are correct but could use more detail. The SILVER DOVE sleeper was not in the original CZ it was one of the 6-Double Bedroom 5-Compartment sleepers added in August 1952 to the CZ consists. The Dome Buffet Lounge Dormitory car was accurate as far as side detail went. Could not find any faults at all. Did I miss something Ted

Good afternoon Tom How about a CR and a round for the house.
Tom don't have time to go digging for all of those PRR Pullman line trains but would like to add that the list got longer in 1948-49 when the through coast-to-coast sleepers were added to the PRR east of Chicago. These sleepers traveled on such famous postwar streamliners as the CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR, CITY OF LOS ANGELES, CHIEF, CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO, SAN FRANCISCO OVERLAND. I had often wondered why their were not any through transcontinental sleepers between the east coast and Pacific Northwest.. Research concluded that their actually were but these cars were operated in Park service. There was actually trips that originated in New York and Washington using PRR, NYC and B&O cars that were transferred to the ORIENTAL LIMITED initially later WESTERN STAR in Chicago and traveled to Glacier National Park where they would spend from 3 to five days depending which travel company booked the trip then continue west to either Chicago or Portland. From their they generally traveled south on the SP to Oakland or east on the UP from Portland for the return. Those cars that went south to Oakland usually returned east from that point although one travel company at least operated their cars further south to LA before turning east on either the AT&SF or UP for the return trip. Now I have a question did the Pullman operate from Oakland south to LA in the LARK or OWL? I have not been able to determine which train was used. Talk about luck a fine old gentleman recently moved into the apartment complex where I reside and it turns out he was in Pullman service for many years, I can't wait to have a sit down chat with him it should be interesting. I just found this out yesterday that he belongs to a group of retired Pullman porters who meet monthly in Berkeley and his railroad pass is still good for all of his travel. Talk about a lucky find for me maybe.

The frequency of signing in today is proportional to how blessed HOT it is here in FL. By Gadfrey, I don't recall this kind of heat in 17 years.[V] Tom, another Gin & Tonic if you please, defintely a Lime twist. Say, I just took a peek at Broadway Limited's release of California Zephyr light weights. I need a "second opinion" on some details that I found to be "off the mark" but I've been wrong before. Would someone interested "scope" these HO replicas and comment on them? I won't "poison the well" with further comments that might influence other's objectivity. One emphasis I can't ignore is on the trucks but there are others as well. See what you think, [tup] or [tdn]?

All "urban renewal" on the garage HO has ground to a halt. The "Fence Line R.R." outside (G gauge) hasn't been touched since May. If the heat wasn't enough, there have been 8 cases of West Nile Virus (mosquito induced) in my County alone. Structures that I can work on inside have been the only option. "The spirit is willing but the flesh is well done."[xx(] At least you chaps can expect relief in Sep. or early Oct. Here, Purgatory holds fast 'till Novenber.[:O] Boris...you know what to do. Enjoy the round in good health. Until next time, so long for now.

G'day Gang!

I see a nice representation of members this afternoon! Appreciate the rounds and Boris certainly enjoys ringing that blasted bell! [swg]

West Coast S Dave Good idea! There's a jar right over there between the pickled pigs feet and hard boiled eggs, marked Clapper Replacement. Your fiver is in there - thanx! One of the things I used to insist on with my crews is that no one - repeat no one ever lost their leave. May not always have been able to take it on the choice dates, but with sufficient planning, there's simply no excuse to lose it. Enjoy yours!

earlydiesels Dan

Don't know what the problem might be with our Juke - shouldn't be any for the price I paid to have it upgraded. Just leave a sticky note on the side closest to the pickled pigs feet jar and I'll be sure to get those tunes you like put in! [tup]

coalminer3

As a PRR fan, appreciate the list! [tup] All that's missing are the names of those trains - a good task for passengerfan Al! [swg]

Trainnut484 Russell

Sorry, but I don't seem to get to browse the other Forums as much as I used to - only perhaps when things are really quiet 'round here. Otherwise, this place keeps me totally occupied for sure. So, I'm unable to comment further on your MRR forum stuff .....

See y'all! [;)]

Afternoon everyone [:)]. Tom, I'll have a Miller LIte with an ICE COOOOOLDD mug, and a couple of slices of pizza if it's not too soon. It's around 98 degrees here in KC. One can drown in sweat just walking from their front door to the car in the driveway.

Glad the weekend is here [8D] [yeah][tup]

Dan I can sympathize with the MKT heritage unit. I wonder what the UP marketing department was drinking thinking when making that design.

Going [#offtopic] here. Boris assume the bell ringing postion. Dave, on my topic in the MR forum, I was mainly interested in where others are at in their model railroading situations, and if their content with status quo or want to try something else that will be challenging. I'm in HO scale and not ready for something different now. Maybe I'll get an O scale locomotive as a display for a conversation piece. Sorry about the confusion. I guess I should go back and rephrase the topic. That's what happens when I'm online late at night [oops][D)][banghead] OK Boris, rrriiinnnngggg that bell. Drinks all around on me.

Kevin, how's work progressing on the 2926[?] Inquiring minds want to know [:D]

Take care,

Russell

Good Afternoon:
Nice to see daylight (the sun, not the train). Most here know I am a devotee of the NYC and such, but every so often I find some interesting things while looking in other publications. Here's something that will bring tears to the eyes of those Pullman fanatics among us ( I guess I qualify there, too). I was looking through some 1942-era material and came up with this list of Pullman lines that ran on the PRR.

Chicago-New York
Chicago-Pitsburgh
Chicago-Scranton (via DL&W at Sunbury)
Pittsburgh-Philadelphia
Chicago-Boston (via New York)
Chicago-Cleveland
Pittsburgh-Boston
Pittsburgh-Springfield, MA
Pitsburgh-Baltimore
Louisville-New York
Cincinnati-Cleveland
Pittsburgh-Harrisburg
Detroit-Cincinnati
St. Louis-Columbus
St. Louis-New York
St. Louis-Pittsburgh
St. Louis-Washington
Indianapolis-New York
Indianapolis-Washington
Louisville-Pitsburgh
Columbus-New York
Columbus-Washington
Cincinnati-New York
Birmingham-New York
Memphis-New York

Lot's of interline service for certain and, of course, some that went deep into the heart of Central territory.

Have a good weekend.

work safe

Hello everyone! A cold Guiness, please, Tom, and a round for yourself. I will saunter over to the jukebox and see if C.W.McCall's got any songs on there. Kinda want to hear "Silverton".
Checked out the "heritage" Katy on newswire after leaving here yesterday. Perhaps I wasn't drunk enough to appreciate it. Or maybe I was. At any rate, it doesn't look like our #142 or any MKT engine I remember. What is up with those funky stripes at at angle from the front???
Been having to scramble up a crew today. The G.M. was marked up to run tomorrow but he called early AM sick so had the cell glued to the ear. Moved the fireman up to engineer, yours truly from conductor to fireman, and got a real UP engineer to be the conductor. Being an all volunteer railway is always an adventure in creativity!
As you can tell, I will be at the railroad this weekend so may not return until Monday. Wish you all would ride sometime. Now, I'll take another Guiness and see why the jukebox quit in the middle of "Blackberry Road".

Morning Tom and the gang...Still working with my four hour old cup of joe, got some freshly brewed in this joint or has Boris spiked the lot once more?

Heads up to those in Northern California and lovers of good old fashioned steam power, got the word from sources in the know that UP
3985 will be steaming west for her first left coast appearance in six years.

She is scheduled to put in a appearance at Portola, Ca Aug 31 to Sept 1. Heritage unit WP 1982 was present in Roseville as of this morning, leading to speculation that the two will be displayed together along with a possible second Heritage unit that will travel west as part of the 3985 consits.

Wow! And I have two weeks leave owed, If I get real quiet around those dates, you'll know where I am.

It's payday, ring that bell Boris, Tom, may I suggest we start a clapper replacement fund, first five bucks is on me.

G'day Ted

Love that Beefeaters & Tonic - twist of lime, of course! Great summertime treat. [yeah] [tup] Thanx! [swg]

Email received - responded to.

No doubt about it (or - no dooooot abooooot it - depending on location! [;)]) we've got quite the diverse group 'round here. Just wish some of the guys would take the time to check on what's been posted before jumping in. Kinda makes those who provide the pix and reports, etc., wonder whether they are being looked at by all. We're only a relative handful in here - so it shouldn't be that difficult. I've found that using the refresh feature really helps - it brings up those who are currently online and in this place of ours. Oh well, you can lead a horse to water ........

Insofar as Rob's Birthday Bash is concerned - it's his call with regard to date & time - Thursday, September 8th is his Natal Day. We await his decision, and of course there's plenty of time. [tup]

Noted that Gunns Kevin popped in and out ....... haven't heard much from him as of late. Must be workin' long, hard, 'n late.

Okay - catch ya later!
