Evening Tom, evening all. Happy anniversary! Tom, kindly get everyone a drink and one for yourself ... my credit is good ... right?
Can't stay but a second unfortunately, but I'll leave you with my top secret link to my sub-gallery in Rail Images. http://www.railimages.com/gallery/album182
It's most of the photos I took for Gunns to possibly be an assist for their AT&SF 2926 restoration.
Hope to catch you all later!

Good Evening Tom how about a CR and a round for the house.
I propose a toast to all who served are serving and will serve this great country in the future
And a special toast to the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation.
I'll leave my other two toasts to someone else this evening.

Good evening guys, une bière d'épinette bien froide s.v.p. TOM.
The way to the Delson museum is a little tricky for out-of-towners: highway 20 from downtown to the Mercier bridge exit (5 min. ride), then cross the bridge and take the left exit off the said bridge, proceed on the same road (through the Mohawk reservation[C):-)]) untill you reach a sign directing you to turn right for the museum. A total of maybe 15 or 20 minutes from downtown Mtl (Montreal).

G'day Chris

I understand the biere d'epinette is a fun thing to try., comes in a green bottle. It's a sweet soda brewed with some kind of pine extract. Is that so [?]

Thanx for the info regarding Delson - thought it was closer to Ottawa than Montreal. That changes things a bit. However, with the airline costs skyrocketing, that November trip may not occur.

G'nite and sorry that you're missing our 4th Anniversary toasts & special meal tonite ....

Hi again everyone. Same way again Tom, if you please. Thought I'd "drop in" to catch a few more "toasts." Wow, there are some really great thoughts being "tossed down" hereabouts. This is truly a remarkable group.[tup] "Four great minds, one great thought!" That's all I can say about the Australia/New Zeland commentary, although the other bona fide scheduled trips in Alaska, the lower 48 and Canada are my personal priorities. I guess I fall into the less than enchanted group regarding "dinner or wine tasting" ventures.

Part of the interest in rail travel is the "cross section" of diverse folks and stories that usually evolve in the Tavern/Lounge or Club Cars. While I realize the individuality of the "fallen flags" trains is no longer possible; I still prefer revenue earning, public transportation to special catered affairs for the wealthy or aficionados of narrow tastes and worldly experience. Certainly, it is great to see examples of profit making special "excursion" trains e.g., the "U.S. Orient Express." I love the Alco FA's on the Napa Valley Train, even knowing the locos should be PA's. Still, something bothers me when I see a former N.Y.Central "boat tail" observation from the luxurious 20th Century Limited "refurbed" into a "rec. room" or "Penny Arcade" for baby sitting the kids. Maybe the truth is more that I see treasured icons from my younger years relegated to abject commercial exploitation. Just knowing I'll never ride such trains again is depressing enough without further desecration.

But hey, this is a happy occasion, not a wake! Let's hear some more "toasts" to "We few, we happy few..." (Harold of England?).[:D] Right Leon, this will be a "night cap" and I must add that the crimson sash across your tuxedo jacket, festooned with those military medals and "spit polished" jump boots adds a stunning "touch of class" formerly occupied by Boris' chicken fat stained apron, clodhoopers and German helmet (Stahlhelm, right Gunns?) Good evening all, have a good weekend, Ted

O.K,Back for the second half,-how about a couple of "freight train blues"-nice little groovin` numbers that will get `em up & dancin--Midnight special by Leadbelly,Love in vain by Robert Johnson,Well well well by Michelle Shocked, all over now,a big dose of Chuck Berry,-and for the slow section, how about Muddy Waters,John Lee Hooker & T-Bone Walker, I could go on all night, bit of a blues thing-trouble is,the rest of the music I play is rather too extreme for this company.....it looks like time for me to get back into the kitchen, force Boris to clean up that disgusting mess he`s been sleeping in-by the way,who told him he could sleep indoors-he has a perfectly good shed out back-I`ve slept in it myself so can vouch for its comfort...enough....another short break[C=:-)]

Good Evening Gang! Still here, with Leon the Night Man behind the bar ....... [swg]

Ted Couldn't have expressed those sentiments any better - I feel the same way about those marvelous passenger trains of days gone by. I recall seeing that NYC boat tail obs as part of the American Orient Express and for some reason, it bothered me immensely. Also - I always wind up having some great conversations and good times in the lounge areas of VIA Rail's Park cars - those observation domes are so well designed for interaction amongst the travelers. Something that the rather sterile Renaissance cars simply lack. Perhaps one day we'll get to share a drink or three while traversing the Canadian landscape ....... [yeah] Appreciate your taking the time to visit with us twice this day. Puts a nice finishing touch to what appeared to be a real downer. Thanx! [tup][tup]

Nick I just don't know how you manage to do it - at the hours you log in it is almost unbelievable loyalty to "Our" Place - Thanx!! [tup][tup][tup] Insofar as music goes - bring it on! [yeah] As the night goes on, the tastes surely change ..... Of course, when my brijde and I do our dance, especially at the late hours - the sloooooooow ones are the best! Don't know how Pink Floyd or Two Pack whoever would fit in to that! [swg]

G'nite my friend and thanx for taking the time to imbibe a bit with us all! [tup]

Gunns Kevin Seems to me you started off this 4th Month Anniversary celebration, so it is only fit that you should be the final one I speak with before checking out ..... I believe Nick, who is 6 hours ahead of Central time, has logged off. Remind him again and you'll get a response ........

See ya all, time to go! [zzz]

Evening everyone. Since Leon is here, I guess Tom has turned in for the night. I'm going to do the same soon. I'll have my usual and a belt of JD as a night cap Leon.

My online problems weren't with my modem. It was one of the cable splitters. Everything's okie dokie smokie now [:D]

Geez Beez Ted, I'm still waiting for a peek at your union station.

My wife and I will be out of town this weekend. One of her long-time friend's house down in Springfield, MO burned Wednesday. Her friend is fine and wasn't home at the time, but the fire took out the whole upstairs and she lost a lot of antique furniture. The downstairs has water and other damage, especially the kitchen. Good thing she has insurance. It's kinda of a bummer [:(] for me since the house sits on the east end of the BNSF (ex-Frisco) yards. I sat on the back porch watching trains go by when we visited.

Good night all [zzz]

Greetings and Salutations All; looks like a cheery place to be and chat with folks of similar interests: Old Trains, one of my favorite topics! Tom, if I might have a Guiness, the darkest you have, and a round of everyone else's favorite poison also. Thank you. Gunns, I must ask; is that a picture of the Berkshire that was in Albuquerque last year? I drooled all over the cyclone fence surrounding that one when I happened on her while I was making a delivery to the steel outfit just down the street from her berthing place. The sign read something about restoration and just made my day complete. If anyone would care for old time tales of the steam days, I just might be able to come up with some tales told by my Grandfather who worked for the D&RGW and AT&SF from the time he was about 14 yrs of age. My Mom taped some of them and if I can get copies, I'll trot them out, if ya cares to hear 'em. BTW, am a tin can sailor meself, class of 63-67, perhaps a bit after yer time, but a swabbie nonetheless. USS Richard B Anderson DD786 was my home for a yr and some. Well gang, must be off, this has turned into rather a longer winded thangy than I intended for a first time visit. Will check back as soon as I am able since I drive a big truck; not OTR any longer, but local hauling seems to take up more of my time than it should. I hoist my glass to all of you and the grand age of steam locomotives (yes, I'll include diesels in that. LOL) Until next time, Jeff

good evening everyone. CR I think Leon. Seems I missed the bulk of the party by a goodly ortion so i guess clean up is my penance.T-storms a continuous non asked for removals of my modem signel has left me throwing jabs and hooks in the patoot palour A late toast to all the fine contributors to our place, to friends to trains, and to TGom who puts up with the whole lot of us. And finally to boris for not de-evolving any further than he already has. Finally Jeff welcome aboard, I lok forward to hearing some of your grand dad's tales of trains past. Good noght everyone. Rob

Evining Leon
Coffee please...
Just lost a half page post to "Fat Finger Syndrom" <Sigh>

The Gist of it is,
Welcome Jeff, yep that was the loco you saw, a 2900 class AT&SF 4-8-4, Largest ever built of that type. Also a running log of our progress is being posted in the Museum thread after each work day.
The D&S and the C&TS are running almost classic passenger service with multiple sections a day, <add verbose and florid description here <<G>>> But the classic railroading We/I want to do is to provide "helper" service over Raton Pass to the BNSF....

Howdy Russell

Appreciate the business this night and looks like I'm back behind the bar for another go ....... still have a crowded bar - Leon the Night Man hasn't had much time to come up for air. Boris is back in the kitchen trying to keep up with the food orders ....... this place has been rockin' [yeah]

About the best that can be said regarding that house fire is thankfully no one was killed or serioiusly injured - and - one day, it will be restored - thanx to insurance. When that happens, you'll resume your vantage point while doing what you enjoy - watching trains! [swg]

[#welcome] Aboard, Lordhawke - Jeff [tup]

Appreciate your stopping by and joining us for some chat and an adult beverage or three! [swg] BorisRing the bell - Jeff is buying a round for this full house this early morning ...... Thanx!

Some recommendations for you regarding "Our" Place are in order. First - check us out by going back to the beginning posts on page 1. Next - scan through the remainder of the pages, paying particular attention to the SUMMARIES, particularly the opening comments. Finally, the last 3 or 4 pages contain pretty much all of the special information about us, so take advantage of them. You'll fit in 'round here quite well ....... especially with your interest in trains and being a sailor at that! [yeah]

We're all interested in stories regarding Classic Trains whether they be real or model. That, plus some humor goes a long way 'round here. Oh yes - check out the customers by clicking on their cyber names in the left margin - that will provide a profile, which the majority of us have used to let one another know a bit about us.

First drink is on the house - so enjoy that Guiness! [tup] and [#welcome] again. Hope to see you sooner rather than later! [swg]

Business surely picked up after that and we've had a bunch in here since ....... nice to see.

Appreciate the 4 toasts - thanx! [tup] Especially about Boris not devolving any further - man oh man - whaddyasuppose that might be, if ........ [?] We'll have to get Nick to put together all of his insights regarding Boris, if for no other reason than to have them all in one post. [swg]

Good Mornin' to one and all.[:D] I can't believe how yesterday's "sleeper" escalated into a "full blown" 4th month shindig. Tom, a 'round on me if you will, but please...no bell![:O] My head is the size of a Circleville, OH pumpkin and I think I have some company. Gunns you can "chalk-up" another Fan for your A.T.S.F. in the person of Lordhawke Jeff. Welcome Jeff, its great to have yet another "steam head" aboard.[tup] Blimey, what's happening with all of the Old Country Tars Sailors lately? I'm beginning to feel like a "Ground Pounder" orphan.[:(]

Russell, sorry to hear of the Springfield, MO fire. Something positive could come of it yet. Say, a screened-in upstairs back porch: "The better to see you with...!" Rob I'll make another Wal-Mart C.D. for Russell. This time, there will be more pix of K.C., MO Union Station facade.[tup] There has been more "urban renewal" and hopefully, I can finish 'round Sep. Speaking of pix, Tom I'm looking forward to seeing your new 'S'ensational rolling stock.[^] Barndad is there any more speculation on what types of passenger cars?

Yes, the rumors about my 67th "old foagy" stripes are all true. Of course, everyone is cordially invited to "Our" Place (Tuesday 8:00 pm Eastern time). Inspector Clueless has given permission for "the girl in the cake" appearance again. This time, Boris stays locked in his shed 'till dawn. Not a problem! His inflatable vinyl "dolly" will be adorned with cup cakes and two electric candles.[alien] Don't know if [C=:-)] Nick has anything special planned. For sure it won't be the "Pillsbury Dough Boy!"[:O] Okay, have a great weekend all, Ted

G'mornin' Ted

[yeah] It was quite a late afternoon and evening 'round here. The rather impromptu 4th Month Anniversary toasts and party worked out quite well after all. Also looks as if we may have a couple of new customers, which are always [#welcome].

I'd be a bit careful with that old foagy stuff - after all, I am OLDER than you! [swg]

Sounds as if you're well on the way towards organizing your own party! Now that's quite interesting - you ARE the Manager after all, so these attendant matters make sense. However, it's YOUR Birthday Bash!.

As I've indicated several times and well in advance (for those who read, that is!) I'll be down in Dallas visiting with *** and taking a tour of the DART/Trinity line RDC's. Really looking foward to this trip - quick as it will be. So, I need some assurance from our regulars that for the time I'm gone (see the comments in today's SUMMARY) our customers will not go neglected.

A round on Ted - hold the bell! [tup][swg]

Hello everyone. A cold brew from any microbrewery that you choose, please, Tom. Had family in from 2 places out of town Friday and today so missed out on the 1/4 year toast. I will raise my belated glass in honor of everyone who keeps memories of what railroading should be alive, whether in reality, model, or mind's eye. Drink up!
Russell, what is this going to Springfield without informing me?? Perhaps you forget I live in this burg. I'll be at the museum at Grant Beach park Saturday afternoon.
Welcome to Jeff. Nice to have another truck driver and steam fan aboard. I have always been a landlubber, however.

G'day earlydiesels Dan

Appreciate your belated toast and well wishes ...... [swg][tup] We had quite a day 'round here yesterday - check out the posts.

Micro brews are not something that we feature nor do I stock very much of 'em - we go for the more established stuff. However, try this - came in the other day and is something that pwolfe Pete enjoys: Katy Trail Pale Ale from the Flat Branch Pub & Brewing of Columbia, MO. [swg]

Appreciate your stopping by this hot day - hit 100 (F) yesterday and today it is so humid you could cut the air with a dull knife. [tdn] Man oh man, will this ever end [?] C'mon fall! [yeah]

See ya!
