Hi
Classic Trains
Are there any good articles on the Train X and Xplorer giving good photos and drawings. Issue # ?
Thanks
Charles Harris
This book has what you are looking for:
Frattasio, Marc J., The New Haven Railroad in the McGinnis Era, White River Productions Inc., Hart, Missouri, 2003, in Cooperation with the New Haven RR Historical & Technical Association
I have the book.
1. You can buy the book.
2. If you get permission from the publisher and author, possibly through the Historical Society, I will scan the specific drawings you want and email them to you or post them here.
To smooth obtaining permission, you might forward my photos of the summer 1970 ERA MP-54 trip to the Society. I had been meaning to do this, but you can do it for me, to facilate the favor you want from them, or to thank them for facilitating your book purchase. They may be lacking any photos of that trip.
Since the New Haven only incidentally ran Xplorer or Train-X consists, I strongly suggest that he find a copy of Doughty’s ‘New York Central and Trains of the Future’ instead, which has the specific material he needs. The New Haven book is very good in covering lightweight trains, but NYC’s play second fiddle to those specific to the McGinnis NH.
Both types of train were big in McGinnis' plans. Did the Central also use both types?

I am now looking for a copy of this book at our end of the world. Postage from US to New Zealand is over NZD65!
Charles
Hi Dave
Have emailed Society as per your suggestion. Thanks
sswcharliePostage from US to New Zealand is over NZD65
Yikes! Is that the actual postage+duty or is that what Amazon quoted you?
I can get a copy shipped to me for about $17 or so and then ship it ‘media mail’ if that is cheaper than direct. Years ago I bought ‘Leader: Steam’s Last Chance and actually had it ocean-shipped with no fancy signed-for nonsense, for far far less than any ‘official’ shipping charge. But I didn’t mind six weeks waiting, or for that matter that the thing might go missing and all I’d have would be the insurance...
Several UK book dealers offer many US railroad books (both new and OOP) at reasonable prices. You can find them on the Railserve and NMRA websites.
