Yikes!  Is that the actual postage+duty or is that what Amazon quoted you?

I can get a copy shipped to me for about $17 or so and then ship it ‘media mail’ if that is cheaper than direct.  Years ago I bought ‘Leader: Steam’s Last Chance and actually had it ocean-shipped with no fancy signed-for nonsense, for far far less than any ‘official’ shipping charge.  But I didn’t mind six weeks waiting, or for that matter that the thing might go missing and all I’d have would be the insurance...

Both types of train were big in McGinnis' plans.  Did the Central also use both types?

Since the New Haven only incidentally ran Xplorer or Train-X consists, I strongly suggest that he find a copy of Doughty’s ‘New York Central and Trains of the Future’ instead, which has the specific material he needs.  The New Haven book is very good in covering lightweight trains, but NYC’s play second fiddle to those specific to the McGinnis NH.
