Hi Tom and all in

Just wanted to call by, leave a round for the house - say I'd had enough time to at least scan through some recent pics - and report back that a successful UK meet up with the Wolfeman happened yesterday!

I'll have a pint of Pete's favourite tipple Batham's and relate the fact that I met up with Pete - we checked out 3 excellent pubs over the course of the afternoon and evening - linked by train of course, linked up with Pete's superb bunch of hometown mates from Rugby and generally toasted Our Place.

Tom, without giving too much away, Pete has a modest item to go behind the bar in Our Place from myself - for delivery to you in due course. This was left stashed in the famous black bag yesterday so hopefully ti will make its way back to the US.

Pete particularly wanted me to apologise for lack of visits recently - he lost his glases somewhere and although he has now resolved this - I think it precluded his attendance!

I also enjoyed hearing stories about the Our Place re-union activities - and a generally good time was had by all!

Sadly Nick was unable to make it - but I guess you juts can't have everything! Nick - I just read your e-mail today which I had not been able to view due to reasons Pete explained + IT probs when I got back - but your message was recieved!

Nice to see recent posts fromt he band of regulars (even though this is from an 'irregular')

Best wishes to all

Good afternoon Captain Tom and Gentlemen!!

Ruth, I'm back! Yes, of course it is because of you, you know that. No, no, don't say anything. A Tuborg Gold, please!

Wednesday, a quick stop during a short break.

Tom –  10 days of sunshine in Seattle and Portland! Wow!Wink [;)]

Yes, I feel kind of sorry for Boris, but he knows how to take care of himself.Smile [:)]

That is a good sign, the paint on your front lawn! If they have started to mark your lawn they might even consider to do something about your problem this year! Smile [:)]

Vito’s office is actually a Swedish Air Force radar central. I spent some time there during my military service in the 60’s.Smile [:)]

Thanks for the photos of the Can-Am Railway!Thumbs Up [tup] A lot of traffic! CN, CP, VIA, and Amtrak!

Nick –  12 oz Sirloin with all belongings sounds very good!!!Smile [:)]

I have also heard that story about defrosting the chicken! The windshields on the X2000 are actually manufactured in England and they were tested by firing dead chickens onto the windshields. I saw a video of the tests many years ago.

I found your list of trains and movements interesting.Smile [:)] I’ll find your track plan (I’ve saved it) and check all movements!

Fergie –  I guess everything is indicating that those double bulbed headlights existed in the 40’s! Interesting, they look more like being from the 50’s in my eyes.Smile [:)]

Allan –  Yes, I am looking forward to the day when the Coffee Creek car will be done and ready to roll! Looks very nice!Yeah!! [yeah]

I used to go bird watching in the old country, that’s the reason I looked up the Godwits!Smile [:)]

CM3 –  As I mentioned to Fergie, I now believe that the 2 bulb headlights came during the 40’s.

A private car is something I’ll buy when I win the powerball.Yeah!! [yeah] That will be the perfect place for a Rendezvous! Smile [:)]

DL –  Take care of Pete and his black bag! Wink [;)]

Hi Tom and all.

A round for all please RUTH, and Bathams for me.

Just a quick visit to the bar I,m afraid, as DL said the black bag done its worst on my reading glasses this time and managed to lose them twice, the second time I think for ever. I have found some glasses but they don't seem very good at looking at the puter screen for too long, so I will have to catch up when I get back.

Met Dan yesterday and it was a real great time, although the Great Western had run out of Bathams the Holden's was on top form. It was really good to meet Dan and I am sure the regulars would have enjoyed the pubs too. I think if Tom and Nick had been there we would have still been at the pubs, hopefully the photos I took will come out OK.

Really looking forward to reading the posts when I can properly.

All the best from the Merrie Olde and hope the Chandeling duites are going well.

Pete.

Good afternoon there Ruth. I see your about ready to leave and I can see Leon's hulking bulk in the kitchen so just a quick Keith's for me.Put a round out for anyone else who seems interested as well.

Tom-Great photo's of the Canam as always.I've seen a couple of the new Bachman PCC's they look quite good, and it wouldn't take up too much display case space. Thumbs Up [tup]

I don't think I would want to feed Canada's to anyone even prisoners ( still better than they deserve I suppose ) I've always refered to them as flying rats seing as how common they are. They would make for easy marksmanship for the hunters I would think as the stupid things tend to stay on the ground.

Shane-Awfull story about the real coal train rolling downhill.I suppose the only silver linning is that no one was hurt.We had a similar incident here in Brantfors about four years ago. The local switch job dumped two 100 T covered hoppers full of Kitty Litter down an emabankment and onto an automobile salvage yard. The upside is the salvage yard got some work, and a new fence.

Tom I'm very glad that I've never gone to those dives drinking establishements with you in NFLD,beer goggles or no,the clientel does not seem to be at all appealing. Shock [:O]

Fergie-Great shots of the layout sir Thumbs Up [tup]. I did get your email. I do have to work on Sunday unfortunatly, when does your train come in Question [?] As to LHS's you are in luck the one at the station is open.My Buddy Scott owns it,he is closing down though but everything in it's 30% off. They open at twelve so depending on when you get there you'll be able to partake.I'll give you cell a try in case you don't see this before you leave.

Dan-Nice to see you in briefly, hope alls well and that you have a good time with Pete.Just don't go near the black bag whatever you do !

Pete-Good Gawd man it eats glasses as well Question [?]Shock [:O] I'm thuinkg that you need to leave it theer maybe it will find a new victim owner to help annoy.Anyway hope your having fun we miss you round here.

Eric-Hmmm Vito's new place looks alot like the shed  Mountainman Mike keeps his Harley's and pick-up truck in. a frightening conincidence I think.<uh oh >

Allan-I haven't had any problems accept the one day earlier this week with the log in's. The disruptions seem random. I wonder if Pete's black bag has a compatriot at Kalbach's computer centre.Question [?]

Nick-Yes it's not supprising that the model companies tend to raid the archieves or the displays of museum's. Much easier to get the photo's and measurements they would need I should think.

You will find that CN tends to have many such incidents like you described at Cochrane. The think they can run their giant loco's and 100+ car freigts everywhere at normal track speed,They don't get that not everyopne has up to date rail and ties.Case in point all the fun they have had in BC on their BC rail trackage, many a train loads gone into the drink in BC since the takeover.

Good idea to spread the pearls of MR wisdom , we do have a lot of silent lookers,so your point is well taken.

G'day Gents!

A ‘bookmark' from Da Bossman whilst I prepare a round of Acknowledgments for this day's fine turnout! Bow [bow] Dan ‘n Pete over in the UK has to be a hi-lite - but surely don't want to dismiss Fergie's "foot out the door" visit - return of Eric ‘n Rob after a very brief absence. And of course Nick's prelude to an inclusive Post! Just a good day at our Bar by the Ballast! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

Later! Approve [^]

<CN #6071 4-8-2 - from: www.yesteryeardepot.com>

G'day Gents!

As mentioned earlier, it's been a rather active day - during the daylite - at "Our" Place, which does wonders for my motivation ‘n hope for our continued presence in the Ether. Nicely done to all who made it so! Bow [bow]

Was a busy day for me, but rather than belabor the point, suffice it to say - never too busy for me to fail youse guyz! Thumbs Up [tup]

Customer Acknowledgments (since my last narrative):

Wednesday - October 8th <all times Central daylite>:

Page 32 - CM3 Shane <coalminer3> at 9:28 AM <10:28 AM EDT>: Yeah, hitting natural gas lines have a tendency to ruin one's day. No doubt those kinds of events precipitated the enactment of state law regarding having utilities marked BEFORE digging. It's been that way in the Show-Me-State for decades. Not an option . . .

Filled up the wagon on the way "out" ‘n it was $3.27 <rounded> - returned 6 hours later to note the price had dropped two cents more.

A beautiful day here in mid-continent USA for the most boring drive of the month. 110 miles round-trip, with most of it in Illinois - not the most picturesque.

Figured you'd "jump" on providing us with some details regarding my latest spate of steamers . . . Thumbs Up [tup] They are fascinating beasts, fer sure, fer sure.

We haven't fired up the furnace ‘n expect to have 2 or 3 more weeks of unusually warm temps for this time of year. Love this twixt air conditioning ‘n heating. Just plain nice . . .

Appreciate your inclusive commentary, ROUND ‘n quarters! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

Page 32 - Dan <DL-UK> at 10:37 AM <4:37 PM GMT>: What Ho! Our Resident Brit in Sherwood Forest has emerged with some kind words ‘n an update on the mini-Rendezvous across the pond! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

I have mixed emotions regarding the item placed in Pete's infamous Black Bag. Appreciative that you've thought so kindly of us - but concerned that the creatures residing within the Black Bag have appetites spanning the spectrum of material ‘n organic things. Cameras, books, itineraries, soda pop ‘n now eye glasses have all fallen prey to whatever it is that thrives within it. <yikes>

It doesn't surprise me to learn that Pete's mates from his hometown are a joyous bunch to hoist a few with. Wouldn't have thought any different . . . Thumbs Up [tup]

Pub hopping, by train, is something I've NEVER experienced. Must be a great sport! <grin>

Many thanx for communicating with us so soon after your get together ‘n we're hoping you'll soon regain the title of Regular! <grin>

ROUND, of course, most appreciated! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

Page 32 - Eric <EricX2000> at 12:20 PM <10:20 AM Sandbox time>: Hmmmmm, what IS going on between our Sandman ‘n RuthQuestion [?] Hmmmmmm. Ah, but I digress - good to see our Resident Desert Almost-Retired Swede show up in daylite! Bow [bow]

Yeah, once I found out what the utility markings were all about, my expectations for the project to begin soared. This year! It better happen this month or else you'll hear the explosion in Phoenix . . . <uh oh>

When you look at that radar site, do you think of it as "home"Question [?] Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Can't be any worse than the guys who used to inhabit the missile silos. <ugh>

I failed to make comment on Nick's story regarding those frozen chickens! It has made the rounds - several times, but always draws a smile ‘n snicker. <grin>

Fine looking CN 4-6-2 Pacific <designed for passenger service>. Thumbs Up [tup]

Thanx for your inclusive Post, good cheer ‘n ROUND! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

Page 32 - Fergie <Fergmiester> at 1:44 PM <3:44 PM ADT>: And another visit from the guy who has been "leaving" for most of the week! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] However, your daytime visits have been HUGE in helping to keep things flowing ‘round here. Many thanx! Thumbs Up [tup]

Many thanx for those fine looking brass models. I've been hoping that you would show the guys just how much of a modeler you are, as opposed to my ilk. You, Sir, paint, detail ‘n decal, whereas the likes of me simply purchase ‘em for what they are ‘n let it go at that. Yeah, you are really a modeler ‘n a darned good one at that! Bow [bow]

Glad I'm back in the good graces of our Resident Canadian Martime Mariner Skipper - been on the S-list of the "old man" a time or two ‘n it never is good! <uh oh>

So, once again - hope your get-away is enjoyable, relaxing ‘n safe! Thumbs Up [tup]

Page 32 - Pete <pwolfe> at 3:49 PM <21:49 PM GMT>: What Ho! A surprise visit from our traveling Bar Chandler from Merry Olde at that! Wow!! [wow] Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

Great knowing that you were able to meet up with Dan ‘n of course tilt the arm a few times with the boys! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Undoubtedly had Nick ‘n Moi been with you, we'd probably either be in the local lock-up OR waiting for another ROUND! <grin>

Can't say we've seen the impact on the Bar Chandlers duties lately, for you planned ahead quite nicely. However, as these weeks pass by, I'm hoping our Manager will pick up the slack! <uh oh>

WHAT is going on in that <censored> Black Bag of yours Question [?] It's time to deep six the sucker ‘n invest in one that is simply arranged. In other words, the fewer compartments, the less likely you are to become flummoxed when trying to find where you've placed an item. <geesh> Sorry about those glasses - I'm sure that's put a crimp in your style, fer sure, fer sure.

If you get the chance to read this - the next Bathams is on the house! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

Page 32 - Rob <trolleyboy> at 4:52 PM <5:52 PM EDT>: Yes, there's room on the bottom shelf of my Canadian Railways display case for traction - just a couple, of course! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] But NO ROOM for an operating line in Can-Am City . . . unless I decide to . . . nah, ain't gonna happen! <grin>

Can't say I've experienced Canada Goose on a platter - but as the saying goes, it probably "tastes like chicken." <grin>

Not trying to make you feel bad, but when I frequented those waterfront saloons in Newfoundland you either weren't around or far too young to walk on your own! Yeah, it was a long time ago in another life of mine. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Sailor bars are sailor bars ‘n it really doesn't matter where they are.

When I took Carol to Bermuda some years ago, I wanted to show her some of the places I used to frequent as a poor sailor. One was located very close to where my ships used to tie up in St. George's. A steep hill up ‘n a roll back down! <grin> The bar where we used to drink, brawl, sing ‘n crawl had gone "upscale." Say it isn't so! said I. But it did ‘n all that remained the same was the name ‘n general layout of the joint. Guess when the U.S. pulled the ships out from SAR standby year round, the locals decided to "play" to the cruise ship crowds <which didn't exist back then>. Oh how much fun we had with the Brits ‘n Canadian sailors in those joints . . .

Thanx for the visit, inclusiveness of your remarks ‘n of course the ROUND! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

Page 32 - Nick <nickinwestwales> at 5:24 PM ‘n 6:44 PM <11:24 PM ‘n 12:44 AM Thursday GMT>: A fine ‘bookmark' followed up smartly with a foto spate in recognition of our Toy ‘n Model Trains Day! Bow [bow]

Sometimes no matter how careful we may be, those <censored> Forum's Gremlins are worse than the inhabitants of Pete's Black Bag! <yikes> Glad you rebounded so well with some entertaining fotos for our crew! Thumbs Up [tup]

Passenger train looks good against that backdrop! Thumbs Up [tup]

Many thanx for thinking of us ‘n of course the earlier ROUND! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

Hi Tom and all,

Leon, the usual round of Tui`s for all the guys` please.Yeah!! [yeah]

CM3. Very interesting chat about Cartography and Geology surveys. The deer over here are doing the exact same damage on our main mountain ranges and forest areas, it is a bit better these days as they are farming a lot of the deer for velvet and venison exports, they catch the deer by helicopter using tranquilliser guns and nets. Deer shooting makes big money from tourists over here as well.Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Dan. Good to see you again, nice to see you had a good meet up with Pete and his Rugby mates in Brum. Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Eric. Would love to visit the Coffee Creek car when it`s fully restored too.Dinner [dinner] Fine pic of CN #5529 at StL MOT.Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Fergie. A nice couple of brass old time 4-4-0 steam locos` for the MESS RR, you`ll be able to simulate the joining of the tracks at Promotory Point with those.Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Rob. Glad to hear your log on hicup was`nt as bad as mine was, it was a very frustrating time back then.Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Pete. Great to see you, good to see you had a nice meeting with Dan in Brum. Looking forward to those pix when they are available.Approve [^] Hope your able to get some proper glasses, will your insurance cover their loss?Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Nick. A fine set of pix of your train consists mate, they look great, you will be chuffed to have them running just the way you want now.Bow [bow]Thumbs Up [tup]

Tom. NZ still tends to be less PC when it comes to sports activities and team names, wonder how long it`ll be before the PC brigade takes full control of our lives` over here.Sad [:(]Wink [;)] Some beaut pix of your Can-Am RR equipment, you have done a superb job of the whole layout, no wonder Pete loves coming to visit you so often.Bow [bow]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

See ya, Allan

Good evening Leon, a round of steins for the boyz. Carlsburg in mine whatever favourite everyone else has in theirs. Thumbs Up [tup]Big Smile [:D]Nice to see such a full plate of folks in today,we've heard from everyone which is a good thing Thumbs Up [tup]

Tom-First off I gotta say loved the two header pictures you used today. The Selkirk and the Hudson are both personal fav's.I figure "divey" bars are "divey" bars no matter where one finds them.Your're right when you were partaking in the deep holes that sailers imbibe in I was likely a glimmer in some eyes, but trust me I've seen the insides of a few questionable joints, with likley just as colourfull of characters in them.< uh oh >

Nick-Nice selection of stuff from your layout.I aggree with Tom I like the passenger train.Looks like a work well in progress sir Thumbs Up [tup]

Allan -Good to see you in again tonight.Yes I'm happy that teh glitch was not too bad.I get hit by it every once in a while.I've not had it as bad as you had been hit since I got the new computer,in my case the old machine just didn't react well to the uploads etc due to it's slow speed.I was also on dial up at the time which lets just say I'm glad that is over with , as soon as the high speed lines were installed in my neighbourhood we jumped at it.I used to stay logged in all the time back then as well,I find that I normally don't have to do that anymore.

Well lets see I think I need another round as my steins empty again. ( Leon must have given me the trick glass again )Whistling [:-^] Since it's optional toy in train / pikes petrspectives day I'll put up some of the old club layout shots again.

enjoy them again

<In for my modest hardcover RR book library!>

G'day Gents!

A chilly start to the early AM here in mid-continent USA. However, temps are expected to reach the mid-70s (F) ‘n into the lo-80s tomorrow ‘n Saturday. Crazy for this time of year! But things are calm ‘n that "counts" for a lot! Thumbs Up [tup]

Coffee ‘n pastries along with our breakfasts are ready! Are youQuestion [?]

Comments from the Proprietor

It's "You Post, I Post" at the Bar by the Ballast! Thumbs Up [tup]

Customer Acknowledgments (since my last narrative):

Tuesday - October 7th <all times Central daylite>:

Page 32 - Allan <Gunneral> at 8:47 PM <2:47 PM Thursday NZ DST>: Wouldn't have been a complete nite at the bar without a visit from Boom-boom, our Resident Downunder Kiwi! Bow [bow] Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Good to see ya! Thumbs Up [tup]

The deer in these parts have pretty much devoured the backyard gardens along with flower arrangements, etc. and have done so for several years. As they get run out of their habitats by "progress," that's to be expected. No natural predators left for the most part. It's a shame, but we're into controlled hunts to rid the subdivisions of ‘em . . . far too many.

Keep talkin' - sounds like your country hasn't been turned upside down <yet>. It's gotten so ridiculous in some circles that no matter what is said, there's someone to be OH-FEN-DED! <geesh> Screw ‘em, sez I - all but six, ‘n save those for pallbearers! <grin>

The fun aspect of the Can-Am layout is that I've been able to meld it with the things we do at the bar, thereby giving it a "life" not planned for. Almost like having an operating layout IN a bar, ehQuestion [?] Thumbs Up [tup]

Many thanx for the visit, chat ‘n ROUND! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

Page 33 - Rob <trolleyboy> at 10:03 AM <11:03 AM EDT>: I see you turned the Page to 34 - something we used to celebrate. That is, until we got unceremoniously wrapped on the knuckles at Page 63 by the LOCKMASTER. So, we're just that much closer, ehQuestion [?] But as the song goes, "Always look on the bright side of life!" Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Always a pleasure viewing those model RR club fotos. Guess they bring back happy memories for you. One of these years, I'd expect you'll get A-ROUNDTUIT ‘n construct your layout! <geesh>

So, the hobby shop in the Brantford railway depot is still there. But not for long as I gathered from your remarks. Has the owner found a buyer, or is simply a close-out ‘n close-upQuestion [?] What a great location for a model trains store ‘n I'm happy you took us there. Thumbs Up [tup]

As an aside regarding remaining logged on to the Forums: One of the "benefits" is that when Kalmbach takes ‘em down for maintenance - routine or otherwise - most times one cannot gain access UNLESS you are logged on. Also, if you have recently cleaned your hard drive ‘n erased the "cookies," then under those circumstances, access may be next to impossible until whatever is going on has come to an end. That's why I've recommended to our crew to remain logged on - no guarantee, but far better-er than the alternative. Insofar as cleaning your disk goes - try to keep in mind that weekends and late nites are when most problems with the Forums occur . . . a word to the wise.

Figured those two Steam MoSheens would flick your Bic! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Anything special going on over this upcoming Canadian holiday weekend <Thanksgiving>  Question [?]

Do thank you for your 2nd visit of the day ‘n good cheer! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

Reminder: Ruth has the bar from 9 AM until Leon the Night Man comes in at 5 PM ‘til closing.

TODAY is Fish ‘n Chips Nite!

Friday is Pizza ‘n Beer Nite! - and - Steak ‘n Fries Nite!

Saturday is Steak ‘n All The Trimmings Nite!

Dinner begins at 5 PM Dinner [dinner] so come early ‘n often! Yeah!! [yeah]

Good Morning Barkeep and all Present; coffee, please; round for the house and $ for the jukebox. Cloudy here today with just a hint of rain last night. It's supposed to clear later today and the temperature to go up for the next few days. I am grateful as it keeps the money eater that resides in the basement quiet.

Pete - Stopped by - that black bag is a monster. The deceased K9 Korps member acted like the bag - he used to eat everything in sight. Let me know if you find an English Springer spaniel in there. Anyway, good to hear from you and I hope you are enjoying your visit.

DL- Also good to hear from you - it sounds as though you had an enjoyable time.

Eric was in with comments. Yes, things will be different when we hit the Powerball.

Fergie - A lovely pair of 4-4-0s. Trust you will have appropriate cars to go with them at some time - safe travels.

Rob visited with comments and reflections. Always enjoy seeing the club pictures again.

Nick - No pictures made it over here (at least to my computer - all I had was large white spaces. We have been having all kinds of strange things happening here, though. Latest one was when they renamed printers yesterday - this caused a lot of our equipment to just stop. The lannites appeared (including some well up on the food chain that I had not seen in awhile. We had a laying on of hands, took up a love offering, and eventually things got back to where they should be. Like lots of other things electronic, they're great when they work.

Allan - Hunting is very big business in this part of the world.  Pumps a lot of $ into the economy and feeds a lot of folks over the winter.  Maybe the kitchen can do a load of "venison surprise" for the darts tournament - find an antler, win a prize!

OSP - Nice layout shots. I enjoyed the first one with the freight and passenger equipment. IMHO, I think Pete and the rest of the crew went train hopping by pub!

Well, let's see if we can post this item

What ho chaps-tea time here, not sure what it is with you all variously-but I am sure the sun is over the yardarm somewhere so Leon-do the honours if you please

Just grabbing a stolen half hour to put back what I lost yesterday,so on with it:-

ALLAN-Wallabies supposed to be the weakest of the `big 3` -so I hear-but its a relative term in this context Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]    Gresleys-master plan is to have this entire rake of Gresleys bar 1 Mk1 sleeper and a Thompson bk3rd if I can find one-The power (B12 in wartime black ) is currently awaiting some major fettling-will shoot some pix when it all starts to come together

Pirate [oX)]Captain [4:-)]TOM-Hope the trip was worth the going Thumbs Up [tup]-hope the pix are starting to give a framework to the descriptions....agree your comments R.E modellers:- don`t care if it`s ultra coarse `scal` or obssessive rivet counting as long as they don`t try and sell it as the `only` method worth following-plenty of space for everyone says I.....Splendid set from the Can-Am once again Thumbs Up [tup]Approve [^]-whats the gen on that Ont. Carb car ??.......Switcher/cab sets look very snazzy-custom paint ??-enquiring minds and all that Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

SHANE-Greenwood Mississippi-magic of a name,eh ?--Catalogues-don`t get me started........those W.V maps sound like an interesting read-we could do with something like that locally-Hook anthracite colliery was totally disorganised-barely any records survive -all houses in the vicinity require huge concrete `rafts`to avoid subsidence.....will look out book title -nice one, thanks Thumbs Up [tup]-previous t/table was an abstract from a 1936 S.R volume but was just too much to deal with

DAN-Delighted the `meet` went as planned-sounds like a grand day out,as they say Approve [^]Thumbs Up [tup]-speak soon...

ERIC-1 steak dinner coming up Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]-will try and provide the `start points` for all the train moves to tie into the plan -have sent an E/M to the West Somerset Rly about #57-see what comes back...

PETE-Glad the trip is going well-good luck with the glasses-speak soon Thumbs Up [tup]

G'day Gents!

I see our man in Wales has returned with a "bookmark," indicating that his stamina ‘n interest for this joint is above ‘n beyond reasonable expectations! Wow!! [wow] What in the world would we do ‘round here without Mighty Man NickQuestion [?] Bow [bow]

Sounding like a broken record <remember those, gang??> this is "You Post, I Post" during daylite - so since the sun has dipped below the horizon, BUT we still have nautical twilight - I figured I'd make a brief response or two. Here then are the Acknowledgments thus far for this Thursday . . .

But BEFORE I do, recommend the use of the REFRESH feature on your browser to get the MOST CURRENT Posts at the bar! Thumbs Up [tup]

Customer Acknowledgments (since my last narrative):

Thursday- October 9th <all times Central daylite>:

Page 33 - CM3 Shane <coalminer3> at 8:14 AM <9:14 AM EDT>: Good to see our Resident WVA Connection up ‘n about the decks so early . . . Thumbs Up [tup]

What do you mean "things will be different when we hit the powerball"- sez you to EricQuestion [?] I'm "in" too - oooooooops, have to buy a ticket, eh Question [?] Oh well . . . <grin>

It's really comical regarding the ongoing "challenge" of Pete's Black Bag! I watched him, up close ‘n personal, during our 2007 Canadian Railway Adventure - ‘n he was "in" that bag more often than a bunny into a hutch. Unbelievable. I saw him place an item into it, then expend all sorts of energy trying to find it. I think he averaged .500! <grin> All of that notwithstanding, the man luvs his bag - never travels without it! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

We're due for a Missouri sales tax holiday this coming spring for "Energy Star" appliances, including whole house air conditioners ‘n furnaces. So, that's when we'll change ours. They'll be into their 21st year of operation, so best to do it before either one craps out. Just hoping we can get through the winter . . . Nice knowing that if all goes well, they will be the LAST units like that I'll ever have to purchase. Thumbs Up [tup]

The "Our" Place Galley Crew can do wonders with all kinds of meat. Have your forgotten our Road Kill ‘n Sausage MoSheen!?!?!? Yes, venison will "work" . . . antlers too! <yikes>

Thanx for the visit, ROUND, quarters ‘n good cheer! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

Page 33 - Nick <nickinwestwales> at 11:41 AM <5:41 PM GMT>: A surprise mid-day visit <here> from our Resident Musician in Wales! Bow [bow] Saw you logged on as I was preparing my finale of the Proprietor ‘n Bar Chandler series of fotos . . . Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Yesterday's trip was my 4-5 week "routine" visit to our nearest military base with a commissary, exchange and pharmacy. Generally occupies 5 hours of time to complete the "mission." A long day, 2 hours of which is on the road in somewhat racetrack conditions. People behind the wheel just seem to be H-bent on killing themselves. Just don't want to be involved with ‘em . . . that's another story! <arrrrrggggghhhh> But, yes - all turned out well - just a long day for my weary, old body. 2001 Volvo finished up at 29.4 mpg - which for that 5 cylinder wagon, ain't bad. Always been pleased with its performance - even if put together in Belguim ‘n owned by Americans! <grin> That's for Eric . . . <uh oh>

Only the VIA Rail SW7 ‘n caboose were custom painted - to my specs. Lawd knows if they're anything even close to reality, but I kinda liked the way they turned out. Good eye! Thumbs Up [tup]

A looooong story regarding the ‘deadbeat' who was paid to do the job - took nearly a year to get ‘em. Then the state <Kansas> took him to court for snookering so many people . . . Thought for awhile that he made off not only with my money, but the unpainted loco ‘n caboose as well. Turned out okay for me, but not so for many others. The guy had advertised in Model Railroader - but one can just never be sure.

That Ontario Carbonate tank car is properly known as a Kaolin tank car. Mine is an Atlas model and here's some "scoop" to shed additional light:

Primarily used to haul kaolin clay slurry for use in the papermaking process, along with many other liquids, the 14,000 gallon non-pressure tank car first built by ACF® in the 1970's adds a modern flavor to any layout. This common tank car can be seen all over the country <Canada ‘n US> and is in service today.

A link:

http://www.atlasrr.com/NFreight/honkaolin.htm

If your day is to be as long as you indicated - take the night off, Mate! We'll surely surive! Many thanx for thinking of us . . . Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup] Mid-day libations went down well - thanx! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Page 33 - Nick <nickinwestwales> at 5:54 PM <11:54 PM GMT>: IF it is indeed Eric's retirement day <tomorrow> then all drinks ‘n food will be served to our <GoR> at no charge - all in honor of our Resident Desert RETIRED Swede! Bow [bow] If NOT - then let's ask again - WHENQuestion [?] <grin>

Save your money, Mate - you'll definitely need it for your trip across the pond to visit with us! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Didn't know you were coming, eh Question [?] Oh well, some guys just never get the word!

Thanx for the "bookmark" - it's a nice touch ‘n really the WAY TO DO IT! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

I'll catch y'all in the ‘morrow . . .

Right then chaps-Leon a round of the special reserve brandy here-may get a bit contentious as we proceed-could well end up scrapping in the car park..........

O.K:-Pirate [oX)]Captain [4:-)]TOM-Some fine shots of PETE`s departure (appropriate music please)-I am sure the black bag is linked to the Cheltenham listening station-(see Enigma).......The shot of Himself and the conductor entirely failing to understand each other is worth money..........

Also the Canadian steam shots are a small delight....

Hi Tom and all,

Leon, the usual round of Tui`s for all the guys` please.Yeah!! [yeah]

Nick. You were right about the Wallabies position in the Tri-nations pecking order, the AB fans call them the "Wobblies", Robbie Deans will make a big change to them going by his record with the Crusaders. Great to hear about your Gresley master plan with the B12 loco hauled train, am looking forward to those pix of it when you get it all together.Yeah!! [yeah]Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Rob. I`m still on dial up server as broadband over here is so expensive, am still running on Windows 98SE programmes so do`nt upload pix at all because it takes forever and a day to do it.Banged Head [banghead] A fine encore of your old club layout pix.Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

CM3. We have a nice venison sausage over here that would go well on the Darts Tournament BBQ, might be a bit tastier than the roadkill ones!Wink [;)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Tom. Would just love to join you and Pete in an operating session on your Can Am RRSigh [sigh], will take an extra Lotto powerball ticket this week, the pot is up to NZ$25 million (about US$15 million) this weekend, so keep everything crossed!Wink [;)] A mighty fine set of pix in the Finale of Pete`s visit with you.Bow [bow] A fine set of steam loco pix in the Classic Canadian Railroading in the Steam Era, the 1st two pix looked great with all the steam vapour rising in the snowy setting.Approve [^] We are lucky to be so far away from the main stream down here, but it will eventually catch up with us sometime, not too soon I hope.Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

See ya, Allan

Good morning Captain Tom and all present!!

No, Leon, I don't want anything tonight. I just stopped by to tell I will be back tomorrow (today) with an inclusive post. It has been a very busy day today, both at the office and at home.

So I just leave you with a picture from the old country, from the fall of 1991.

Beautiful to look at but those leaves can create big problems when they are falling down to the ground and the track.

Round for the house!

Then a bunch o' stuff that wound up being re-worked through some creative editing . . . Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Page 33  Allan <Gunneral> at 9:43 PM <3:43 PM Friday NZ DST>: And it wouldn't be a nite-complete without hearing from our Resident Dowunder Mate in Kiwi-land! Bow [bow]

Yeah, it's been a good run with the train trips ‘n get togethers with the Wolfman. He's a genuine article ‘n in spite of hardly understanding a thing he says, fun to be with! <grin>

Didn't realize the internet service was so tenuous for you. That's a shame ‘n makes me wonder why things are so expensive for you to acquire hi-speed. Guess there's just not enough profit margin in it for some, as they squeeze every penny they can from the subscribers. <barf>

All the wishful thinking regarding the various Lotteries going on makes me wonder what we'd do with such a windfall. Probably go on living the way we have, but of course at the onset there'd be a splurge unlike any others experienced in our lives. Private rail car fer sure, fer sure - huge donations to our Wolf Sanctuary (rescue ‘n rehab facility) and Animal Rescue facility <dogs, cats, small wildlife) - we've been regular contributors to both for years. Then host the Rendezvous of Rendezvous . . . yeah, fun to think about. But the drawback for Moi is: I have to purchase a ticket FIRST! <grin>

Appreciate the visit, chat ‘n ROUND! Thumbs Up [tup] Bow [bow]

Good Morning Barkeep and all Present' coffee please, round for the house, and $ for the jukebox. Heavy fog this morning when the K9 Korps went out for the dawn patrol but it is clearing and promises to be a beautiful day and weekend. Gas is at $3.29 here today (dropped 20 cents in two days).

Nick was in with quick notes and comments.  Greenwood, Mississippi - served by the Columbus and Greenville RR (a fascinating short line) and by the Illinois Central.

Eric - The scenery in your picture reminded me of the old PRR low grade freight line (Columbia and Port Deposit). Their catenary was a little different but the trees and the river - nice shot, sir. Happy retirement!

OSP - The conductor can't understand Pete? I don't think so. I believe he asked him what was in the bag and was amazed that a small package like that could hold so much.

My compliments on the snow pictures - you know I enjoy that sort of stuff. The GTW 4-8-4 is lovely - I always liked the Vanderbilt tenders on those as I think it "balanced" things out.

Kaolin is some of the slipperiest, nastiest stuff to deal with I have ever encountered. The first thing the safety folks tell you is basically, "One hand for you and one for the ship," when you are working around it. You start sliding and you look like a pig on stilts and when you land - yuck!  Kaolin, as the blurb suggested, is used for coating in fancy paper such as is used in the National Geographic magazine.  I noticed that Atlas is going be selling a tank car that is used in molten sulfur service.  We see lots of them around here.

New heating system - we did that abt 3 yrs ago and noticed a tremendous savings in our gas  bill (for real). Reminder that I will be offline Monday, but will try and post again later today.

For the baseball fans - good night Phenomenal Smith, wherever you are.

Work safe

Morning Ruth , 'll grab my usual number 3 with the large thermos of "speacial coffee" A few coments and a couple pictrures before I'm off on the days adventures.

Tom-Thanksgiving will be a bit different this year.A good friend / contractor / all round good guy and I will be installing some new evestroughs and downspouts on the casa as well as some new facia pieces. Then everyone including said friend and his wife are heading over to the Brides families home for dinner.Nice thing about teh family is that everyone brings a dish or two and the dinner for twelve will feed at least twenty <burp>

No my friend din't find a buiyer so it's an everything must go kinda thing,he wants it wrapped up by Halloween if possible, the lease is good till new years eve but he would rather get two months back.ad but whatchgonnado Question [?]

Of note  ( I loved the latest setam shots BTW ) 6167 is currently undergoing a major cosmetic refit in Guelph, there was a website for those wishing to help/donate but I can't find it at the moment.I'm not sure what's more frightening,Pete's black bag or it's watcher.

Anyway guys more comments later when I ahve more time, here's a couple photo's for the afternoon though.

An Algoma GP38-2 right before it's repainting into WC livery. Sault Ste Marie ON

Another oddball that will tear at some heartstrings. D&H GP38-2 in new owner ( at the time ) CP rail train in Niagara Falls Ontario ( early 90's shot ) This CP trackage is now gone removed in teh name of progress ( second Niagara Falls Casino <barf> )

A very early photo for me TH&B GP9 401 at Hamilton's Agincourt Roundhouse 1985.This is just after CP's complete takeover of the TH&B.The roundhouse and shop facilituies were torn down about six years after this photo was made and a new steel transloading facility was put in it's place.

Enjoy

Good afternoon Captain Tom and Gentlemen!!

Too late for Ruth, hmm. Oh, hi Leon, a ham sandwich on rye, please. No, Sugar Cured Ham! A cold Keith's.

This days is going by at a very high rate of speed! But at least I made it in before sunset! I noticed some misunderstandings about my retirement day. It is not today, it is not until October 30! Eight more days to go to work. 12 miles on the freeway one way.

Fergie –  Two nice, historical locomotives you’ve added to your collection/railroad/layout! CP and UP 1869! Very nice!Wow!! [wow]

Pete –  The black bag and its owner pops up! Lost the glasses? Hmmm, what else did you lose?Oops [oops] Have fun!Wink [;)]

Rob –  Vito’s new place is a very safe place and you are right, Mountainman Mike has his Harleys and pickup truck at the same place! Very safe!Mischief [:-,]

I enjoyed your pictures again! I really like that trestle in the last one! Has it survived? I understand that club layout is gone today.Sigh [sigh]

The Algoma GP38-2 looks very nice in its WC livery! Nice shots!Thumbs Up [tup]

Tom –  Gas price yesterday was $3.15. Maybe we will go below $3.00 son!?Yeah!! [yeah]

Going on between me and Ruth? Nothing, absolutley nothing.Whistling [:-^] She is just kind of lonely now when Senior Manager Lars can’t stop by every day. Mischief [:-,]

Most of my time in the military I spent inside another mountain, not too far from the one in the picture. But I can’t say I thought of it as my home. We were locked in there for a week at a time. It was during the coldest period of the cold war and a lot of incidents happened all the time. The Air Force had to send up planes almost every day to investigate and stop (im most cases) Soviet planes. Interesting to say the least.

Hmm, I noticed that Wolfman created his own line when it was time to get aboard the train home! The rest of the people waited nicely in a long line but not Wolfman! Interesting. Nice photos from Kirkwood!Thumbs Up [tup]

Nice photos of the Canadian Locomotives!Thumbs Up [tup] I am not going to make a comment about the snow this time! But it certainly looks cold!Grumpy [|(]

As I told Nick below, my retirement day is October 30, I still have 8 more days to work.

Strange behavior? Me?Confused [%-)] Of course not! That is my way.

Thanks for the GN information.Thumbs Up [tup] They had a bunch of good looking drumheads! It’s hard to pick just one.

Nick –  Interesting pictures!Thumbs Up [tup] Seeing all those freight cars makes me wonder if the freight cars in the UK today are as short as the old ones were?Question [?] If not (I don’t think they are) when did the change in size start?Question [?]

Looking forward to the start points for your trains! And a response from West Somerset Rly!Yeah!! [yeah]

No, no, I still have 8 more days to work! My last day will be October 30! Maybe that generous offer can be postponed?Smile [:)]

Allan –  I have to find out exactly how Coffee Creek is going to be used when it is finsihed! I did not even know they were working on it.Smile [:)]

Good luck with your extra Lotto Powerball ticket!! Smile [:)]

CM3 –  I would say to hit the Powerball will change everything, but that is okay!Yeah!! [yeah] I think I will survive.Mischief [:-,]

The color of the leaves is okay as long as they sit on the tree. But when they are coming down on a windy day with some drizzles wetting the ground...Grumpy [|(] No fun at all.

I don't remember if I showed this one before.

Round for the house! Oh, hello Ruth... now?

G'day Gents!

Friday nite ‘n before the Blues NHL opener comes on the tube, thought I'd catch up on the day's comments with a few Acknowledgments . . .

Customer Acknowledgments (since my last narrative):

Friday - October 10th <all times Central daylite>:

Page 33 - CM3 Shane <coalminer3> at 8:11 AM <9:11 AM EDT>: Ah yes, Monday Holidays, I recall those . . . funny how when retired, every day is a HOLIDAY! <grin>

In Canada it's their Thanksgiving, in the U.S. it's called Columbus Day - a bogus reference to the false notion that he "discovered" America. Yeah right - sounds a bit like the current political campaigns . . . <barf> <grumble> <mumble> <bratzafratz>

As in real life, I hardly ever think about what's "in" those tank cars - unless they are clearly marked. But now that I've done a bit o' research on Kaolin along with the elaboration from our WVA Coalminer friend, well - amazing how my thoughts will change next time I look at either <real or model>! Thumbs Up [tup]

Yeah, I've noticed the "savings" in fuel use over the decades each time a new furnace ‘n air conditioner gets purchased ‘n installed. Just makes me wonder - every 20 years the "savings" supposedly gets greater. However, tell that to those who constantly keep the rates going UP! <barf> It's all about the money! <grin>

Watched the Phillies squeeze out one over the Dodgers on Thursday nite - split screen of course. Finding it more difficult to remain awake for 9 innings of ANY baseball game. Watched a bit o' hockey on cable - surprised to see the Leafs beat the Red Wings ‘n also Boston topping Colorado. ONLY 81 more games to go in another meaningless season - then the REAL competition begins for the 16 who make the playoffs. <triple barf>

Phillies are about to take game two <real time typing> . . .

So you think the Conductor was expressing concerns about the contents of Pete's Black Bag, eh Question [?] Perhaps that's why he seems to be "fending Pete off" with that portable step! <yikes> Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

More on your guy, Phenomenal Smith <click>:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenomenal_Smith

"Call of Trains" shipped today - will be here on the 14th! Thumbs Up [tup]

Thanx for your inclusive comments along with a batch of quarters ‘n a ROUND! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

Page 33 - Rob <trolleyboy> at 10:37 AM <11:37 AM EDT>: Sorry to learn that your friend was unable to find a buyer for his model RR store. What a shame that fine location will go to something else. Wonder whatQuestion [?] Maybe the two of us should consider opening up an "annex" for "Our" Place right there at Brantford's train station! Yeah!! [yeah] You could work NIGHTS - which of course you seem to delight in! <grin>

Sounds as if you've gotten a day's work <at least> carved out for what is supposed to be a holiday. A day to "chill" - eat - "chill" - drink - "chill" - get the pointQuestion [?] Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Yeah, I understand - a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do . . .

Thanx for the trio of Geeps - really diverse paint jobs! Thumbs Up [tup]

Appreciate the DAYLITE visit, chat ‘n fotos! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

Page 33 - Eric <EricX2000> at 5:35 PM <3:35 PM Sandbox time>: Many thanx for the DAYLITE visit! Bow [bow] I didn't think you had reached your retirement date - but just wanted you to confirm it for anyone who had been wondering . . . Thumbs Up [tup]

There's a school of thought on the part of some that there's no way a guy can be a "friend" of a gal without . . . sooooooooooo, perhaps you may want to exercise some CAUTION when it comes to Lars' gal RUTH! <uh oh>

Some GREAT news this afternoon. The owner ‘n his lead man showed up to check out the drainage-foundation work that is to begin on MONDAY! Awwwwwwright! I feel as if a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders with an "end" in sight. Hopefully the END of the Diaper Patrol - the END of being concerned about going away for any length of time without worrying over the possibility of a flooded basement in absentia. Yeah - feels good. <phew> Never thought I'd feel good about parting with such a large sum of money - but, it has to be done ‘n that's pretty much "it."

Filled up the bride's car at $3.13 <rounded> this afternoon after we took in a nice late lunch at Mike Duffy's Pub ‘n Restaurant. Good food, nice ambiance ‘n very close to home. Pete will be surprised to know that there was NO BEER for me. <grin> Hardly ever drink the stuff when out - unless he's along. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Wonder why that isQuestion [?] Hmmmmm.

That foto is a new one for the bar - ‘n whatever it is, it's damaged! <uh oh>

There seems to be a return of sorts to the cold war as the Russian long range bombers have begun "testing" the air defenses of north America again - so I've been reading lately. Just a matter of time before we get back into that mode again, methinks. This old world just is begging for something catastrophic ‘n I'm not talking about finances. <groan> What brought that onQuestion [?] Your discussion of that "bunker" you had to spend a week at time in. Must've been quite an experience . . .

Must come to the defense of our friend the Wolfman - he was there FIRST to board the train - others lined up after him. Don't know WHY he went to the right of the door! Hmmmmm. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

COLD snowQuestion [?] Guess what happens to WARM snowQuestion [?] <grin>

Truly appreciate the fine inclusive Post, good cheer, chat ‘n ROUND! Bow [bow] Thumbs Up [tup]

And what was Ruth "hanging around" forQuestion [?] Hmmmmmmmm. <uh oh>
