Seems soon to become a reality.
Fox News version
Later Daily Kos version (with map), discussing the initial tender for the Mexico City to Querétaro segment, plus other routes planned or in development.
They claim 186 mph top seed, yet it will take 2 hours to cover the 130 miles?

Slow rate of acceleration?
Johnny
To the extent they use existing rail corridors they will be bound the horizontal curve limitations of those corridors. A 186 mile bullet train can not go around a 5 degree curve notably faster than a conventional train.
Wonder how KCS feels about this?

So let's get this straight: Mexico scrapped its nationalized passenger train network decades ago and from less-than-nothing expect to build a high speed something. HSR tomfoolery has crossed the border.

if your attitude about HSR is even slightly a reflection of Amtrak's, it's a sad day.

Old news: the initial contract was cancelled and supposedly will be rebid.
As Paul Harvey used to say, here's (part of) The Rest Of The Story:

Mexico scraps plans for HSR due to budget cuts. Chinese company was bidding on it, and they are not happy. Several articles here:

Interesting international political pressure. Third world against an economic giant.

Although Mexico has been trying to cut its reliance on oil revenue, 31% of its budget comes from Pemex. The recent drop in oil price could cost their budget about $40 billion if it stays low. Mexico currently produces about 2.5 million barrels each day. Some of the OPEC countries are also hurting, so maybe they will do something and we will be back to $4.00 gas. If that happens, then Mexico can continue their plans for high speed rail.
