RIP AMTK #925 (likely).
SUV far from a road-suicide?
It's amazing how careless people are with grade crossings. I have watched fire trucks and other emergency vehicles pull onto crossings even when the flashers are going.
It takes an NHV-SPG shuttle less than 3 seconds to pass a particular point on the line at track speed (the Vermonter only takes about 5 seconds).

Conn crossing reported as a private crossing with locked gate on far side. Truck may have stopped on track to get gate unlocked ? Here is google view of crossing.

blue streak 1 Report Train #132 WASH - BOS hit truck ( ? ) near Mansfield. Someone in the know. Thought that all these tracks were grade separated in MASS ? 2 killed apparently in truck ? No description of truck yet ? http://www.wcvb.com/news/amtrak-train-derails-after-hitting-truck-on-tracks/26614732#mid=19297451 Amtrak service alert. Once again the inability of Amtrak to operate over the inland route hinders service to Boston passengers. http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?c=AM_Alert_C&pagename=am/AM_Alert_C/Alerts_Popup&cid=1251626311517

Truck (SUV?) was reported to have been driving on the tracks - this was not a grade crossing incident.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!
The fire damage to cab car 9639 was due to the chipper's fule tank rupturing underneath. Track speed in that area is 80, so it appears the train was slowing when it hit.
It's easy to see why the crews aren't really fond of running cab-car first.
9639 was built in the late 1960s as a Metroliner. It was converted to a cab car (no motors) in the 1990s for Philadelphia-Harrisburg Capitolliner service, part of the first batch of conversions.

Note this truck is part of a national tree triming chain. They will be held to a high number of dollars to repair / replace the damage,?
Report on Connecticut truck struck by train. Look at the cab car definitely major damage after de railing. May need a replacement. Wonder if the plan to convert some AEMs to cab cars is still planned ? Notice that ROW looks cleared for the restoration of second main line.

To add to the confusion another Amtrak train on the NH - Springfield hit another tree trimming truck which derailed the loco
