Piedmont hits yet another truck

I don't know why North Carolina truck drivers have so much difficulty understanding the rules at railroad crossings.

AMTRAK locomotive so most likely had a working camera.  BTW signaled or unsignaled crossing?

Maybe it is time for separate hefty fines and suspensions levied both against drivers and the company that does not train and instruct them correctly. If I was a company and knew that maybe part of my operation could be shut down for not training my drivers correctly I would make sure the drivers are trained that it is an immediate job loss of any violation whether or not the driver ran into the train. By showing that all drivers attended such a course a company's suspension would be just probation.

Is it possible that as a passenger or crew member I can sue the driver/company for reckless endangerment even though no injury took place??

Definitely a gate.  One of the things they have to fix is replacing the gates that were knocked flat in the accident.  It was a tractor trailer dump truck.  The train tore the trailer off the tractor, which was still drivable after the accident.  The fact that the tractor and trailer separated on impact probably saved the truck driver.

we have to train people to not get in the way of AMTRAK locomotives? what is this nation coming to.

At least this time it was a freight train.

Looking at the crossing and where the truck the trailer's landing gear may have hung up on pavement or a rail ??

It is time for the FRA & fed highway to step in with very steep fines and companys loosing license to operate.

No trucks sign should state "Automatic driver's license suspension"

Read one of comments "gps sent me that way"  HOW LAME !!!!!!!!!!!!

Truck drivers in NC apparently believe they have the right of way over trains.

Obviously, the ideal solution is to eliminate as many of these crossings as possible and idiot proof what

you cannot eliminate. I wonder what the progress is on that front?

A southbound Amtrak train struck a man walking on the tracks Sunday afternoon in Durham, then ran over a second man’s body in Greensboro – but investigators don’t know whether either death will be ruled accidental.

Train-related deaths spiked in North Carolina last year, and rail-safety experts say that as many as half involved something they don’t like to talk about: suicide...
