A semi-occasional series focusing on the strange and bizarre beneath our feet.

Autotrain Revisted - If it works for Amtrak, why not the Transit Authority?

Still waiting after all these years for someone to build a Segway with a climate-controlled enclosure for the rider...

i had hoped this thread would have taken off by now.  Where are the contributors?

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

The PUMA is just a clunky two-wheeled version of that four-wheel car on the subway.

I mean something like a weatherproof and air-conditioned capsule just large enough for the single rider of a typical Segway.  If you remember the Buell record motorcycle that had the rider wear the 'streamlining' panels on the sides... that sort of tight enclosure.

I've seen more powered unicycle things on the road than segways.  By a lot.

Didn't segway go belly-up?

I think Segway has been gone a long time.  I find I don't really miss them that much.

Still going strong .  They are involved in the scooter and e-bike market as well.

Segway was sold to British interests in 2009.  Their CEO notoriously went over a cliff riding one of the British products a couple of years later.  Having owned more than a fair share of British cars... I had never seen the upside of having Lucas electrics, but now I do.
