Why is that nearly new locomotive blowing all that black smoke at around 8:15???

They're 10 years old.

Yeah, time flies.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

But that's a Tier 4 Cummins QSK95 -- it's not SUPPOSED to have any waxy unbuilt buildup in the exhaust.  That's transient overfueling, and the engine control is supposed to prevent that.

Looks to me to just be a few light puffs of smoke, after the engine has been sitting a while. Not unusual for some smokey exhaust when engine is working hard, like starting a train.

I was unaware that the song had be created as a political campaign tool in the wayback era of 1949.

Or this

"The song has become so entrenched in Boston lore that the Boston-area transit authority named its electronic card-based fare collection system the "CharlieCard" as a tribute to this song.

The transit organization, now called the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), held a dedication ceremony for the card system in 2004 which featured a performance of the song by the Kingston Trio and then-governor Mitt Romney."
