Conversely, the Genesis locomotives were designed with input from Amtrak's engineering department so they are probably better oriented to intercity service. Besides, Amtrak has a surplus of power so I don't see any motive power orders in the near future.
Amtrak may have a surplus of motive power, but surely it also has a shortage of assignable day coaches?

What is the cost of the unit? Once again, thanks for the information. I was just curious that alot of commuter rails are purschasing this locomotives. I think it would be logical to use them for long range passerger service.

I wish Amtrak would purchase this locomotive to their fleet. I am not a fan of the Genesis locomotive. What do you think?
In your opinion how do fare prices and pass prices on GO compare to those of American commuter systems like Metro-North, Chicago's Metra and New Mexico's Road Runner? a.s.
Will I be able to see these new locos in service at union station yet? rambo1...........
Have you looked at the web site?
