New Haven FL9s in Framingham Yard—Anybody Know Why?
Posted by MrLynn on Monday, November 5, 2018 6:38 PM

A couple of weeks ago I was driving by the small Farm Pond CSX yard in Framingham, MA, when I noticed a couple of New Haven FL9 (?) cab units parked.  Haven't had a chance to go back and see if they're still there, but I'm wondering whether they were being shipped somewhere. I hope not to salvage!

I believe I've seen in "Trains" magazine and also on this website they've been sold off to various buyers.  Most likely they've been staged for delivery.

As far as I know none have been sold to scrappers.

Third hand source (orignally attributed to the Cape Cod Model RR Club and Museum) says:

Boston Surface RR Co. bought 2027 ($51,100) & 2011 ($85,200)
2026 ($56,100) went to the Cape
Texas Grapevine Hist. Ry. bought 2014 ($72,100) & 2016 ($75,101)
Webb Rail got 2024 for  $93,100

And I'll plug a Trains.com newswire:

http://trn.trains.com/news/news-wire/2018/10/03-connecticut-sells-its-last-fl9-locomotives

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Thanks! I should remember to read the Trains Newswire. Looks like 2024 is going to Mass Coastal. Can't read the second number, but likely that one is, too. Have to go back (if this rain ever stops) and see if they're still in the yard. /Mr Lynn
