Be interested in who buys from the new GE plant to be set up in Egypt.
It will probably be the end of the the plant in Erie PA. They announced at least 1500 hourly lay offs on Friday and additional management and engineering positions in the near future.
This would be a change from the previous practice in India, where the Diesel Locomotive Works plant in Varanasi built Alco and EMD designs under license arrangements.

I very much doubt that the Indian facilty will be involved in building units for North America but a lot of the work being done at Erie currently will probably shift to GE's newer plant in Fort Worth, Texas (which is non -union IINM?)..

Its somewhat old news the bid openeing was early september? See link below, the India PPP bid has been around I think since 2006, its to build a new locomotive factory in an underdeveloped area of India staffed by local workforce and build 100 diesel units per year for 11 or 13 years I think, then another part of the bid is same criteria for a certain amount of electric units.
Basically the goal is local economic and job creation. Increase India's railroad infrastructure for factory production etc.

Ft Worth builds locos based upon 'kits' supplied by Erie. Initially, the new Indian plant will do the same thing, and will then phase in more local content as DLW did with both Alco and EMD based production.
Word has it that that Erie will build the first 100 locos.
I note that GE has a tech center in india...and recently opened a new 'multi-modal' manufacturing plant in the vicinity of Pune.
The Erie plants has many built many locomotive's for export. Last year they loaded them directing into freighters for delivery.
Most domestic locomotive production has been shifted to their Texas plants. Ge cut 1500 jobs here on Friday, a third of it existing work force. Ge has hinted at additional management reductions and more reduction at its grove city PA engine plant.
At its height, ge employed 18000 people here in Erie.
