It seems everyone has an opinion about these two particular locomotives these days. They represent Americas finest technologically advanced power for moving freight across America. Personally, I like both, but the ES44AC wins on one account for me. It looks beautiful. The SD90 is not as appealing to me, but she is a solid performer. No doubt. Apples and oranges aside, both these locomotives are very impressive. GE is really a first rate company and much of what they produce is very technologically advanced. From computer systems to clean burning diesel engines that get the job done and under budget. Most of the modern locomotives are advanced as far as their power plants. So, it may all boil down to looks. Please tell us what you think about these two locomotives.
Thanks

Are you confusing the SD70Ace with the SD90?
There are no "full power" (i.e 6,000 HP SD90MAC-H) 90's still in service and the unit was out of production before the first Evolution series GEVO locomotive was built by GE. The EMD 6,OO hp engine was not considered reliable by the railroads that purchased them.
Even the 4300 HP SD90/43 "convertibles" are being sold off by UP although NS is buying many for rebuilding..

I stand corrected.
I meant the SD70Ace locomotive. I was tired when I began this thread. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
UP is NOT selling off all the SD90s. They have sold the 120 or so to NS. The rest are as of right now staying.
In fact a number of them are in captive service running oil train service from Canada via Eastport Idaho, because they were equipped with Hot Plates and Fridges already.
Every single CP Oil train I've seen heading to and from Bakersfield has had an SD90 on point for this reason.
Give me a GE any day.
My opinion: I'm no fan of the new EMDs. Computer screen system/interface sucks, control stand layout is awkward, and you only get one counter. Plus GE is better with fit and finish, it seems.

It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any
