Allright here's the question...Wich predessors colors and secondly wich units?
My vote would be the ACes but the founding roads could be harder.
ACL seperate? ACL/SBD merger?
C&O deffinate as would B&O. L&N also. Would you have a Clinchfield unit?
I don't think I would waste paint on a PC unit, just NYC. Would/should there be a conrail blue?
Let's hear the debate.
At M.P. 54 on the Toledo Sub.
The world gravitates towards insainity.
How about a Chessie unit?
Good one, maybe a Western Maryland? Fireball?
The Lehigh Valley Railroad, the Route of the Black Diamond Express, John Wilkes and Maple Leaf.
-Jake, modeling the Barclay, Towanda & Susquehanna.
I vote for the Chessie unit as well.
B&O, Conrail, Chessie Sytem, Family Lines.
If they decide to do all of the pre-Conrail rail lines then there are another 5-6 units.
What! No "Worms in Love"?? It's almost as if you're Trying to forget about the Penn Central (the US Rail version of the Hindenburg).
I think I still have a bottle of flowquil PC Green somewhere, unless it's a green brick in a bottle now.
How about a WESTERN & ATLANTIC DIESEL LOCOMOTIVE painted in the same colors as the GENERAL STEAM LOCOMOTIVE on display in KENNESAW, GEORGIA. The W&A is leased to CSX by the state of Georgia.
ACL definately, that purple paint scheme was classic. Also the B&O "Royal Blue" livery. We'd have to include the C&O paint scheme, and the old Western Maryland was very dramatic indeed.
I can't see it happening anytime soon, but it's fun to speculate. And looking at how the NS "Heritage" paint jobs turned out I'm amazed at how well paint schemes from the 40's work so well on modern diesel units. The designers back then really knew their stuff, didn't they?
For CSX to do something like this, they would need to do it in such a way to go above and beyond NS.
UP did their heritage engines.
Then Amtrak did heritage engines - going one step further and using the old paint schemes.
Then NS did the old paint schemes - but went a step further and did 20 of them. And they had a giant public gathering. To be fair - Amtrak had a small gathering of theirs at WUS, but it wasn't as newsworthy.
So now - what can CSX do to top that, and not look like a pale imitator?
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any

CSX could do the same as NS, and just use as many passenger paint schemes as possible, since they were likely more flashy than any of the freight schemes. Then they could have the engines perform as many office car specials as possible until they are pulled for freight service.
They may also consider using engines other than the ES44AC and SD70ACe, and use some AC6000CW units, as Lionel did when making some "what-if" units for their product line.
If CSX decides to repaint some of the AC6000CW locomotives then why wouldn't it just repaint a pair of former Conrail SD80MACs in their original baby blue Conrail paint schemes?
How does CSX top NS? Just like this: after painting the units in the "Heritage" schemes they run a locomotive cavalcade, say from Fredericksburg to Richmond on the old RF&P (I forgot THAT paint scheme, it was classic!) terminating at the Science Museum of Virginia (the old RF&P station on West Broad Street) WITH Ross Rowlands 4-8-4 #614 in the lead. Now THAT would get people's attention!
Ain't gonna happen, no way, no how.

Many said the same thing in regards to a NS heritage program a few years ago.
Never say never on (or about) the railroad.

CSX has designated Office Car engines that are not used in general freight service. They are former Amtrak engines.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!

I was wondering about that. I figured that they might have some kind of office car set of cab units, but can't remember what they are exactly. Aren't they F or E units?
The CSX office train power is a set of ex-Amtrak F40PH's numbered in the 9900 series.

Okay, so I must be confusing them with the old Conrail units and NS's units.

Ordinarily I'd be in 100% agreement with you, but not concerning CSX. The whole corporate attitude now is it's a business, not a playground or entertainment medium for railfans, or the general public for that matter. Hey, it's their 'road, it's their call, I can live with it.

All it takes is a quick change in leadership. Ala Mr. Moorman and NS.
I vote for the chessie as well
Second WM Fireball and RF&P-and who should do Auto-Train?
Blue Alert! We're at Blue Alert! Aw crap, it's a nondescript GEVO... Cancel Blue Alert!
I think What CSX should do is go the middle ground and use the paint scheme's of the old Railroads but the Lettering should say "CSX" or "CSX Transportation" instead of the old Railroads name.
Also I think they should do the Following
ACL
B&O
Chessie
C&O
Conrail(Maybe)
Family Lines
Georgia / A&WP / WRA
L&N
NC&SL
New Haven (Did NS do this one?)
PM
SAL
SBD
NS WAS considering painting a New Haven unit, but they decided against it. Why? The NS doesn't own any former NH trackage.
I also think that maybe when the CSX adds the lettering to the units, they use the fonts from each unit's representative railroad.
Check out Andy Fletchers Facebook page. He has drawn a set of CSX heritage units as he did for NS.. They have been sent to the CSX CEO to try to garner interest as he did with NS.
I vote for B&O, C&O, Western Maryland and the Pere Marquette. Anything from any of the other passenger versions would be good too. Any engine they presently own done in any of the heritage colours would be great. Brighten things up a bit.
I would like to see the Western Maryland in black with speed lettering. With the B&O's 185th birthday upon us, this would be a good time for CSX to roll out heritage units to celebrate all of the railroads that have made CSX the railroad it is today.
I think that Norfolk Southern has pretty much hit the ball out of the park with their heritage fleet. As much as I'd like to see an GEVO in Chessie paint, CSX would look like a sorry wannabe if they tried to follow.

Agreed, but I still think that it would look very cool if they did it.
DavidH66 Also I think they should do the Following ACL B&O Chessie C&O Conrail(Maybe) Family Lines Georgia / A&WP / WRA L&N NC&SL New Haven (Did NS do this one?) PM SAL SBD
I would go with SBD and not Family Lines. The schemes are very similar and technically speaking, "Family Lines" wasn't a railroad (the same could be said for Chessie System, BUT it is a very unique scheme). At first, I though the idea of another Conrail heritage unit would be redundant, but it does represent a huge chunk of CSX. Maybe they could it the "Quality" scheme. Also the, New Haven would be a good choice. How about an RF&P unit?
