Those KCS units look great 4sure. Here's one I caught leading into Barstow back on 12-26-2008. The "Taco" Belle is followed by an all Santa Fe consist which included a GP 60, SD75M, and a Dash 8 40CW.

UP 1995 lead the MWCFR 3 via the Tehachapi pass today. To my knowledge this was 1995's first run over Tehachapi, and it was great to see 95 on the point. Here are a few pictures from the chase, 1995 was put in the hole at Marcel for some southbounds and so Tunnel 9 could be inspected, which ended the chase after the sun went down.

Thanks for the update.  I am not familiar with that area since I have not been there for a long time.

I does look like a nice place to take pictures and the light seems to be good from that location.

Your pictures of the 1995 are very good and that is the first time it has been there.  It has been in the Bay area several times and up the coast line when I got it last year, but LA to Fresno is new track for the 1995.     We will be watching to see if it goes back to LA or to Roseville when it leaves Fresno.

After leading the MWCFR 3, UP 1995 would return to West Colton on the MFRWC 5 scheduled out of Fresno at 6:00PM. After a # of delays the MFRWC 5 would finally pass through Mojave around 11:30AM. Here are a few shots from the short Mojave-Palmdale chase, originally the MFRWC 5 had an arrival set in West Colton for 8AM but won't arrive until 4:30PM. Worked out for me though... ; )

The passenger cars are normally kept in Omaha so the E units work their way by pulling some freight.  The 844 and 3985 have done the same duty on their way east many times.

I can  accept that the E units would be used to pull freight between Cheyenne and Omaha/Council Bluffs as they have to make the trip to marry up with the passenger fleet.  However, the picture above has them crossing the Cedar River still pulling freight, and that is a good deal east of there.

In addition, why would the E units be based at Cheyenne but the passenger fleet at Omaha?

Yes the E units are based in Cheyenne along with 6936 (when it's home, currently stored at Portola, CA) and like CZ said they haul freight when heading over to Council Bluffs. The UP heritage units (1982, 1983, 1988, 1989, 1995, & 1996) are system wide runners although it seems at times that 1989 is assigned to Colorado.

I am not a fan of SP "Heritage" colors I rather see their old SP colors but we usually are used to see dirty locomotives anyway! Smile,Wink, & Grin

The E units in Iowa on freight is strange but they probably were picking up the passenger set already in place at Chicago or what ever place the passenger set was. 

There might be someone on line that knows the details on this particular move and could tell us what really happened.
