I see them on a regular basis where I live. On NS mostly. Some on CSX. I have pictures from just last week of conrail engines. They are of course "patched" but hey still "big blue". If I could figure out how to post pics attached to my message I would be more than happy to share with you guys. God Bless all
In the last six or seven months, I've caught several here in Pittsfield (Ma.) of various models, and I've also caught some in North Adams (Ma.) that have been "patched" but unpainted. They're out there!!!
There are still a number of Conrail units around on both NS and CSX in the original blue scheme around Ohio and Kentucky. Most have been renumbered and may have a black or blue backed number boxes on the cab sides, but the rest of the paint scheme is intact. I am a road conductor for NS, and see these units in a fairly regular basis. Most are in pretty sorry shape, and run as second or third units. (Most crews aren't very happy to see one of these as a lead unit, as they are occasionally assigned).

Yes there still a number. When I was photographing the western slope between Johnstown and Altoona I saw approx 6 different units still in CR blue.
TrainsRock I have seen NS Conrail without any renumbering or anything.

These might be the CR SD70's (2557-2580) that were already numbered in the NS series when they were received by Conrail.
Ive heard only 136 left on NS. I got NS 5440 still in Conrail Blue leading D46D eastbound yesterday.
Just 24 Conrail Blue left on CSX , half are six-axle GE Dash-8s. One GP15, 3 GP38-2, 1 GP40-2, 3 Dash8-40B, and 2 SD40-2. Plus one Dash8-40B in NS black.
B30-7CR Bryan Jones: B30-7CR: Yeah. There are still some around. In fact, just yesterday (12/18/10), I saw an old Conrail SD70 with THE BLUE AND WHITE PAINT JOB!!!!! Was on the CSX-Chicago line going westbound. Second engine in on a mixed freight. B30 There are no SD70 or SD70MAC's left in Conrail paint. All such units have been repainted by NS and CSX respectively. Bryan Jones Yeah, sorry. I got mixed up in locomotive model. It was really the legendary SD80MAC.

It was not an SD80MAC either, all of those have been repainted by CSX and NS.
Do the Conrail Shared Assets areas still use Conrail paint? It seemed logical to me, at least. I still see a few cabeese in Conrail paint on freight consists on the NEC when I travel.

Crap happens. When it does, stop, take a deep breath, and call the wreck train.

MJChittick Aren't locomotives assigned to the two Conrail Shared Asset Areas (Detroit and New Jersey) still painted and lettered "Conrail"? I know I've seen several in the Detroit area. Possibly one of these units got a little "off the reservation".

No. They use a mix of NS and CSX power. Some may still be blue, but that's just because they haven't been painted by their owners (NS, CSX) yet.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any
Leaving school early had it's advantages for me yesterday. I was on the bus coming home, and happened to look up as we were about to go under a railroad overpass. There, sitting right in front of me, was ex-Conrail GP38-2 #5347 (patched, of course) still in Conrail blue switching the yard. I couldn't believe it!lol
Bryan Jones no you didn't, all of the SD80MAC's on both CSX and NS have been repainted. All of the former Conrail SD70MAC's on CSX have been repainted as well.

I think i seen some csx sd80macs still in conrail paint
Hi all
Here are some pics of ex 'Conrailers' showing off the colours a little away from home.
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=250786&nseq=59 - A BB36 wearing the new owner' paint scheme.
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=243236&nseq=78 - A C30-7, still in CR Blue, but already regaugedhttp://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=212398&nseq=145 - two sisters, one with the 'new suit', the other one still on CR Blue, but wearing the new owner's logo.
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=152481&nseq=199 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=151946&nseq=203 the same ingine in two nice portraits (only the numberboards have changed), showing off the colours, but there seems to be some confusion about the designation of the type
Mario_v And please don't forget that some of former CR units have migrated to Brazil (also some ex SP, UP and BN units too). Of course gauges there are different, and I've seen some in the broad - 1600 mm gauge - and also metre gauge, with some Co' Co's conveted to Do Do's, ffor example by Vale.

Conrail Still with the fade colors.
I just saw a CR SD-40-2 coupled to three other 40s heading up to Waycross on the Florida/Georgia border. It was great to catch one in CR livery let alone the fact that the entire loco consist was made up of four SD-40-2s and nothing else. CSX runs more older locos than NS does down here... I've seen quite a few Dash-8s in CR. By the way, I never noticed that CR had cab headlights on there 8-40-CWs (as well as several other safety-cab models)... I thought NS was the only one who ordered them that way. Why have a cab headlight vice a nose headlight? (besides adding frustration to NS modelers)
