Retired CN Locomotive Engineer and avid steam preservationist Harry Home has passed away.

The letter below says it best.  May he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear about the passing of your colleague 'Dude.

Thanks Wayne.  I only had the opportunity to meet him a few times, but he was one heckuva soul.  A real passion for steam, and a terrific mentor to younger heads, both during his working career at CN and in retirement with 6060.

While I suppose he was not very well known in the U.S, he was a significant figure in the Canadian steam world.  I don't think it is an understatement to say that he was Canada's Doyle McCormack.

Here's a documentary made some years ago, in happier days for both CN and 6060:

I just can't see guys like us in 40 years standing next to a c40-9w in the same light as those old RRers stand next to steam engines and the like.

A whole 'nother breed they were.  And getting fewer by the day.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Great videos and good remembrances. Those of us around during the transition cannot ever forget . Lucky to have people like Harry around at the time.

What of 6060? Will we see it again operating?

They have a rebuild plan that has been approved by the Provincial regulator, and have lined up a boiler repair contractor to do the work once funds are raised.  But they need a lot of $$$, and have a long way to go.

Here's their website:
