Heading west from Cumberland, MD the line rises gradually to Hyndman, PA. From there the grade stiffens (up to 1.59%) up to Foley. The next section to Glencoe is not as steep. The rest of the way reaches 1.94% to the 4,777' summit tunnel at Sand Patch. The western slope reaches 1.5% down to Salisbury Jct. and less than that to Connellsville.
