Hi,

Official reason is insurance but given the location I don't see how it could survive long-term. Trip ran from "nowhere to nowhere." Look at an Ohio map and see how removed the town (Carrolton the boarding point) is from any population center and not on any direct routes to any population centers. The ride was nice and the folks are good, just a lousy location.

It could return but not in the near future.

I live near the area so I'm not slamming them as such, just pointing out the realities of running a tourist operation in the middle of nowhere with nothing extraordinary to offer.

we had one of the old B23-7's here in massena about three weeks ago. it was the old 2018. it was actually nice to have a ge instead of an emd for a change. the class lights even worked all the way around too. i thought CSX had sold all of them off but i looked it up on the computer in the car knockers office and csx still has 4 active and 3 in the mow service.

There's two ex CR GP15s working the Chrysler yard in Newark DE. I think there's at least another two in the NS Wilmington yard (behind the Amtrak Wilmington Shop).

Last year I saw a B23 with a gp15 in old cr colors and a gp15 in sharp looking ns colors pulling a local from harrisburg. The ge was on the point.

Some of the Conrail B23-7's went to Metro North, who in turn sold them to BNSF. I'm not sure if they're still in service.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

most of the ex-cr b23-7's have been retired by ns, due to their "run into the ground condition". some were sold to short lines and regionals, mining industries. the b36-7's that ns inherited were retired, or sent back to GE, from what i hear. ns has also put a large number of ex-cr gp38's and 38-2's into storage in altoona, and enola, pa. one of them, the ex-cr 7868 which has the special "philly division" paint scheme, is in storage in altoona awaiting disposition. but as far as the fleet of ex-cr b's go, get your pics now! (if you can). the gp15-1's are mostly assigined to areas east of harrisburg for yard and local duties, and various parts of the NS system. some were sold to LLPX, and HURON CENTRAL RAILWAY in canada. also ex-cr sw1001. #9402, which also had the "philly" paint was sold to AMTRAK by CSX., and is in new york

Most of the B23s have been sold off by the NS and are just waiting to head to their new masters...

I haven't seen any east of Pittsburgh either,the area local had B36-7's for a while after the breakup but have since been replaced by GP38-2's & GP40-2's.I believe most of NS's B23-7's(former CR & original NS) have been in storage in yards at Conway and Enola Pa.By the way,I haven't seen much of Conrail's GP15-1's either.Good luck and stay safe.

I've been wondering if there's any remaining ex Conrail B23-7s. Some B23-7S's pop up in the Kingston (NY) yard but been mostly EMDs.
