Oh yeah, and Jay, what was that post of yours supposed to say???

Happy birthday, Ed.  Congrats to Brian (Ky) on the addition to the family.  Happy New Years in about 20 minutes.  Hoping the crowd in the hotel atrium give it up shortly after Midnight-I need my beauty rest.

Have the rules-cat, cook, paintball, etc. been posted yet?

A Very Early Morning to you all and HAPPY NEW YEAR! May all of you have a safe and happy 2007!

Brian (KY), congratulations on the addition to the family!

Well, I promised you all a couple new pictures for the new diner. Here's a shot I took a few days ago while my expeditions took me west to Clinton. There's a couple flaws that the perfectionist in me hates, but it's still kind of aesthetically appealing:

By the way, that was taken with on of my new toys, a Tamron 180mm f2.5. There were only 3000 of these buggers made (it's a 75th anniversary thing) which is a real shame, because it keeps the price high on these. But if you can find one, they are absolutely terrific! I don't hesitate to use the thing wide open. It's an adaptall lens, too, so you can mount it on almost any camera with the right adaptall mount (EOS shooters, there is an EOS mount, but it's expensive. It's better to get an M42 mount and then an M42->EOS adaptor).

Well must get a couple hours rest in case we get some rain free skies for an outing later today (which according to the weather folks is likely). Again, best wishes for a safe and happy new year to you all!

But I do believe its time for me to sleep, been a long night of playing DD for my friends drinking themselves into a stupor. Oh well, at least we all had a good time, and I have the peace of mind that the ones that went home, got there safley abd the obens who stayed at the party have no keys...... They have to call to get them back becasue only a couple people know where they were put. So I guess I will see you all for breakfast............on Tuesday that is Tongue [:P]

....Chris, really a dramatic pic of your subject line of tank cars....and with the lit signals and colored sky...Really like that.

Tamron w/ f 2.5....That's  a bunch of light being passed thru it for it's size....

Sounds like a great performing lens.  Tamron is the lens  I choose to put on my EOS some years back...Not digital.

Good morning and Happy New Year, everyone.  OK, here's my contribution to the DD&CS decor- certainly not on a par with Chris's shot, but a nice catch for my collection with CShaveRR's help:

UP 2001 and 1995, sitting on a spur behind the Berkeley Metra Station, waiting for their next assignment on today's MPRCB.  Carl, did I get that all correct?  I really should write things down as I take photos...

Too bad these darn container trailers are stacked in the way...

The coffee urn is right over there (we have some heavy duty coffee drinkers here).

The nice part about a virtual diner is that we have virtually everything on the menu.  You can have one of the bear claws, if you want.  I'm going for CW's deluxe breakfast this morning.

New pics.  What a great way to start the day!  Thanks Brian and Chris.

I'll just have a large glass of juice to begin my day.  I'm planning on having a nice, uneventful day today.

Just in case anyone is interested, I've got lunch on the warmer bar:  corned beef and cabbage, cole slaw for anyone (like myself) who doesn't eat boiled cabbage), and black-eyed peas (for luck).  The cabbage is supposed to be a symbol for money for the coming year.

For whomever asked about chocolate cake, I've been baking this morning.  There are three already frosted, and ready for a couple of days, and there's about six in the freezer.  So dessert for the next couple of days is taken care of.

Greetings to all the folks at the new Diner .
It has been a long 3 wks. since I have been here .  Been truckin' lo0ng and hard to pay for new tires  for Rattler , all 18 .  Quite a chunk out of the monetary depository. Where I've been  has snow and more snow .  The pan handle of Okla. is not desirable this past week.  Spent Xmas . at a truck stop in South Colo.  The saying bout  the Pan handle winds  is the truth , they are your constant companion and you never get used to them . Beleive it. Met an old timer in Straight  Okla. , he told me of the winds , the brim of his hat was bent up . There isn't many hot spots for wireless laptop there .  Shucked the load in Liberal Ks. and headed home , with a load for Gallup N.M.  Gonna lay up for a bit at home , not too much upholstry on the sit down bones . The best of blessings to all you folks.  Cannonball & Shirl.

Voss can keep the island. Building a bridge to get to it would be cost prohibitive. (carryover from the now locked DD&CS)

Southeastern Colorado is a mess. Pickle factory warehouse roof in La Junta collapsed under 8 feet of snow. Hospital in Walsh has roof troubles. BNSF has called out the rotary from KC. (La Junta to Amarillo and Las Animas Junction to Hutchinson need help. 10-18 foot drifts in many places...Something tells me Ruxton to Frick to Springfield is a nightmare)

Assume switch8 was in Lamar and got out of there just in time...

...Must really be bad in some spots.  As M C mentioned of calling out a rotary....Seems they use them only when it's really bad.  At least that's the idea I get from reading about their use.

Swtch8frog, glad to hear you made it home o.k.  And HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND SHIRL!!

I've got the next round of corned beef and cabbage and black-eyed peas ready for supper tonight.  I've also got some Mexican leftovers from Ed's birthday yesterday. Everything is on the warmer bar.  Hmm, think I'll turn on the CD player, and play some good ole train songs.  Think I hear at least one train layout , so I guess everything's all right, and on the right track, after the move to our new location.  Way to go, guys!!

Tonight Omaha will have their New Year's Eve fireworks. They were postponed until this evening due to the snow yesterday. It's my family's tradition to watch them from the Amtrak station, so that is where we will be this evening.

I've been spending today watching SciFi channel's Twilight Zone marathon. A few hours ago they played "The Hitch-Hiker". It's probably my favorite one just for the fact that it features a train. A lady gets stuck on the train track and there is a train coming. Of course she gets off just a second before it passes. It's really quite the drama! Wink [;)]

It's been a beautiful day.  A perfect way to start out a new year.

Tomorrow is a stock market holiday in honor of President Ford.  Makes for a long four-day weekend.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone!  And to those who have been gone over the holidays, welcome to our new DD/CS, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Coffee is ready, juice is made, and hot water is on for cocoa and hot tea.  There's also some hot chocolate this morning.

On the warmer bar you will find:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, fried taters, tater tots, homemade buttermilk biscuits, sausage gravy, fried country ham w/red-eye gravy.

I really don't know if we're have PRODUCE TUESDAY, but I'm up and awake early this morning, just in case.

Everyone have a great morning, and I'll be back in after awhile.

Homemade biscuits and ham smothered in gravy sounds just about perfect this morning.  With a large glass of orange juice, please.

Looking for a high today in the mid-60s.  That should be just great for all of the running (well, walking) around that I have to do today.

Okay, for those who will be in for lunch today, here's the lunch menu:

1.  tomato soup w/grilled cheese sandwich & fries (or a PB&J sandwich)

2.  turkey sandwiches w/fries

3.  There is also some corned beef and cabbage left from last night

PLEASE NOTE:  I'M PLANNING SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FOR THE SUPPER/DINNER MENU TONIGHT, SO PLEASE EAT ALL YOU CAN ON THE LUNCH MENU! (SO THERE IS NOT A LOT OF LEFTOVERS.)
