i don't want either of those 2 crash 9s to go to a museum. i want it to be an SD40-2. something that does a much better job representing CNW than something they owned for the last 4 years of their operation. something EMD. with 6 axles and a spartan cab. and class lights on the nose.
of course if a crash 9 was donated but didnt affect thr chances of getting an SD40-2 to a museum, i'd support it
for me, the golden age of railroading was the 90s. when the old and new were STILL present, but the old had much prettier motive power still present. for me, CNW died with 8575

UP planned to renumber them back in...about...1994, I believe.

I saw one in similar condition at Centennial yard in Ft. Worth. Saw another one beside the D.B.Jenks shop in Little Rock. It was not there on my next visit and considering the condition it was in the prospects were not good.
When the final CNW DASH 9s head to the paint shop they should have a 21 Torpedo send off.
That send off would also use up all those dangerous, old torpedoes.

Pretty rough looking, aye? I doubt they would patch the duo. They will probably just paint the two units in UP's scheme and let the railfans just keep looking for the two units that just seemed to have dissapear......

Why wouldn't a museum want a dash-8 or 9? Railroading didn't end in the 1970s. If a newer engine fits the collecting plan of a museum, then that museum would be interested in one.
Plenty of GPs are preserved.... but how many dash 8s? Or will we wait until there is only one or two left sitting in a deadline in Mexico...

There maybe some hope that the Dash9's might stay CNW for a while. The last remaining Denver Rio Grande went into the shops for work about two months and was scheduled to be patched. However word came down for higher ups that it was NOT to be patched. So it emerged from the shops still in DRGW paint with no UP patch.
