Moronic, ain't it? And they're counting on a moronic jury somewhere to help them win the CSX Lottery. They'll probably find it, too.

Which raises the question,
Do all the Chinese labors who worked for Central Pacific, as if they were indenture servants, and all the Irish who built UP have a lawsuit based on the conditions and lack of saftey concerns?
I am the descendent of a German Jew, arnt I owed somthing for the mass murdering of WWII?
Of course not.
No more than the descendents of the slaves mentioned in this lawsuit are owed anything.
At the time, slavery was legal.
Yes, the laws have changed, thank God.
I have a shipping reciept for a slave, dated before the Civil War.
(long story on how I came to have this)
It is quite sobering to hold a reciept for another human being in your hand.
A 12 year old girl, and someone sold her, as if she was a piece of merchendise!
But, again, that crap was legal.
You cant go back and retro fit laws.
If that were the case, every person who can trace their bloodline back to the pilgims should be able to sue the Nation of Great Brittan for religious persecution.

Here here! I'm with you on that one Ed. Do the Christians go against Italy because the Romans once fed them to lions as sport etc etc..

The case against CSX is particularly absurd, because no railroad right now is particularly liquid, all are heavily saddled with debt due to aquisitions and merger. They are "plant" rich, and cash poor.

And as they have stated a number of times in the mag, though right of way and rails are expensive to put in place, it isn't worth much without traffic.

If there were a huge judgement, what incentive would CSX have to operate for years on end, withoutt profit to pay the shareholders? Id throw in the towel, how bout you? Let them start ripping up the rails, and sel l them for scrap, til it dawned on them that black consumers benefit from the operation of existing railroads just the same as everyone else.

Why can't we have more common sense people like Ed running this country instead of the power hungry, money hungry idiots who currently do?

And, on top of all of that, what is the proof that a person is a descendent of slaves?
Base it on the color of their skin?
How many Hatiains, Cubans and black South Americans have migrated here legaly?
How do you decide which is which?
Documentation from that time about slaves is scarce.
There is no photo id of slaves, and the receipt I have is typical of the times.
It list a girl, named Adaline, 12 years of age.
She was shipped from Baton Rouge La, to Port LaVaca, Texas.
Period.
No last name, no names for her parents
As if she never exsisted before she was purchased.
Prove who her descendents are?
How?
I know this sound like I think slavery was ok, trust me, I dont.
But there isnt going to be a very good paper trail to follow back to discover who really are descendents of slaves.
And unless you can prove that, you have no basis for any suit.
Part of this is due, of course, to the fact that, until the later part of the 20th century, most black Americans were denied even the most basic education, and lacked even the most rudimentary skills, like reading and writing.
Until the 1920s, most states failed to keep records of any quality of the births of blacks, names and dates and any of the info we find necessary today.
If the only qualification for joining in this lawsuit is being black, then CSX, and the Federal goverment, and the American taxpayer, are in a lot of trouble.
Do I think the instution of slavery was correct?
No, and I dont think the caste system in India, nor the class system in Brittan are right, either.
What I do think is that each and every American is promised, not guarnteed, a change to succede, if they wi***o work hard for what they get.
And all you are promised is the chance to try, the rest dependes on you and your drive, regardless of the color of your skin, or what god you worship, or where your parents were born.
Stay Frosty,
Ed

True,
But remember,
"Before attending to the mote in thy neighbors eye, attend to the beam in thy own"
And your right, in that you would be hard pressed to find any race that, at some point in time, was not enslaved by some other race.
It is insane, but we all could find a reason to file a lawsuit as un supportable as this one.

Hondo, huh?
I lived in Helotes for years, if I could find a railroad like my current employeer, I would move back in a instant.[:D]
Stay frosty,
Ed

I hope that IF this foolishness does go to court that people like you are on the jury.

If a company makes a faulty product that truly injures someone then a lawsuit should be allowed. But some juries have gone overboard with the settlements. However, the settlement caps that I am hearing about now may be too low. There must be a happy medium.

Hey, I have some Cherokee Indian in my blood too. And if this lawsuit wins--I'm gettin a lawyer.

This case isn't any sillier than the coffee spill/McDonald's lawsuit. It is about deep pockets. And lawyers who have a lifestyle to support.

But greed and "how far can I pu***his" runs rampant in this country and common sense seems to have gone begging!

Remember folks that only in the good old United States can we tell all we know that so many of our leaders are a bunch of moronic cretins and get away with it, or write as freely in this forum as we all do and without fear of being arrested and put up against a wall and shot! GOD BLESS AMERICA!
