Yes Pullman Jct. is in unsafe area. Railfaning there is hit and miss. While I was there, I saw some NS double stacks and transfers. BRC coal drags and CRL trains. I didn't have a scanner availible and plus I didn't stay after the trains rolled past. The best location to view the trains, is on 93rd street where NS crosses BRC and CRL north to the Verson steel plant (Which is closed down). Please, don't go after dark. Very unsafe if you know the area.

The cars with yellow and green ends go to Consumers Energy. Many go to West Olive, Michigan, between Holland and Grand Haven. I think that Consumers' plant in Essexville (near Bay City) also gets their coal this way.

I can't remember the reporting marks, but I know that the cars were black with yellow or green ends. Interesting.

Also, side note. NS runs a train from CN (IC) to their Calumet Yard at night. Where does this train orignate? Does any body know? Plus, Chicago Rail Link and CWP did they merge?

There was a fairly regular run of western coal switching to BRC rails in Cicero jct & then reaching GTW rails from Hayford jct, just south of their old Elsdon yards. They had a mix of coal gons or regular coal cars on this run. Or like JoeKoh says they have a connection through Pullman jct to other eastern roads. I doubt if any of this coal could be used by any of the steel mills remaining in the Gary ind area, or if it would be loaded onto one of the lake ore boats.

With so many railroads, there's always something interresting going on in Chicago. Plenty of public places to get your photo or just observe what is happening. Be careful and be safe!

I was in Chicago for 2 weeks and noticed some interesting train movements in area.

BNSF coal train on ex GTW trackage, does anybody know where they were delivering that train?

On BRC trackage, Pullman Jct. I saw another BNSF coal train going eastbound to the lake. Is, their a train to ship loading facility in south Chicago?
