Learning to get the hang of it and understand how it works. Lots of good questions. So far I like, but have not had much time to check things out.
Thanks

The magazine is getting politically, start reporting about what makes a railroad tick, history, etc.

There are far too many ignorant trolls and far too few knowledgeable railroaders or railfans on this particular forum. Moderators should be capable of blocking troublemakers from accessing the forum even when they change i.d..'s, as I know that that has been done on other Snitz forums.

I left here several years ago because there were too many irrational trolls posting then, and I see that even though the forums improved greatly in format, the quality of the discussions has decayed to the point that's it's a waste of time to even bother looking. I'll leave y'all alone from now on!

It does seem a little "backwards" though. It used to be that the latest posts were right at the top, now you have to go down to the bottom of the last page. Let's see if we can turn that around..

This is the first day of the new format for me, I've been here about a half an hour or so, and am gradually finding my way around. Looks pretty good, it will take some time to get used to it though.

SooBlue - go to the red box marked Members up above. Put in your "handle" for a search - it will bring you up. Then open that up and you should be able to see your last ten trips to the forum.

Jen

Thanks soooooo much Jen,

I wanted to confirm that yes that is correct (as you find out on your own).

The edit and delete icons only appear on your own posts.

See "Train Tickets" Page 2. And the worst part of all, is that there was no "profanity" in it. it was merely a different opinion from what was posted. seems like some people have a hard time with "differences in opinion"

Oh, I see...

Honestly, that would have been someone here although I don't know who made that edit. I'm strictly technical support on this site. Although I have made a couple of edits where people were trying to use the "quote" option and ommitted one of the tags so the quote box didn't show up.

...

I received a followup email asking about this, so I wanted to clarify who can edit posts.

The only people who can edit posts are:
- the author of the post
- moderators (we don't have anyone marked as moderators)
- administrators (we have a few people who are at this level)

You may start seeing magazine logos in place of the stars. This indicates that this person is a staff member for that particular magazine or Trains.com. The prescence of that logo does not mean that person has moderator or administrator privileges.

Well...at the moment there isn't anything that shows who replied to whom.

This type of forum is usually referred to as a "flat view" forum. Visually the relationships between posts isn't displayed as you were used to in the old forums. I have seen instances where posts are numbered (#1, #2, #3, etc.) and a line is inserted at the top which says something like "In Reply To #1".

If you are replying to something in particular, there is always the "quote" option. This will identify what part of the message you are replying to.

Well I found that the quote thing works okedoke.
The forum keeps real good track of about everything. Is there a way to mark the messages that you have posted in? I don't have the best memory so now I have to search every message when I forget which I've posted to.
The old forum highlighted the posts read.

I realize that but it still doesn't answer my question as to why my posts on the web page show the edit and delete button in the header and it doesn't show up on other peoples posts or am I the only one that sees this on my posts and no one else can?
Just answered my own question.Went to the forum page without logging on and lo and behold the edit and delete icons did not show in my header.
If it helps any, I only got the url message once. That was when I tried to preview my message. Have never gotten it using the quick reply or making changes with out trying to preview my message.[:o)][:o)][:p][;)][:)][:D]

I've noticed that a few people have shared a similiar view in regards to the smilies and such. Do people find those things really annoying? Honestly, I would love to hear some more opinions.

The smilies are graphical emoticons. Emoticons are used as an aid to help convey the feelings of the user. When people are involved in a conversation, body language, tone and facial expressions play an important role in conveying the feelings and attitudes of people. However being online we lose that aspect of our conversations. People use emoticons to help make up for that loss. Personally I would rather put up with any abuse of smilies than have a misunderstanding of someone's message.

With that said, maybe...(not promising)...there will be a way to allow individual members to "disable" them.

I was a bit frustrated when I initially couldn't log on because of the user name. But now that that has been resolved, I really like the new format. As someone said earlier, you don't have to click and download now to see every reply.

That is a tremendous help. It used to be I was spending more time waiting to download than to read a reply. This is a vast improvement. Well done!

LOOK, i don't know who the loser is that keeps surpressing ym right to ":freedom of speech"I.e the one editing my posts but i can tell you... you better not show your face or do that again.. because i will track you down.. I will find out who you are. And then you will be sorry.. Never surpress a Canadian's right to freedom of speech. I do apologize if you are upset my freedom of expression.. but thats just to bad. I have a right to psot whatever i deam worthy, and everyone on here has to respect that.. if someones six year old is reading this.. THAT is what is illegal.. as i would like to remind you.. no child below the age of 13 is allowed to surf the net,.. United states law.. so therfore i make accord myself to a Pg-13 standerd. if you have any problems with this.. you can e-mail me and we will ahve a lengthy chat about your "FCC" style of censorship.

Kevin Ilaqua..
i have made a copy of this if you try and edit it.

You have gone from an F to a C; changes make it possible to at least use the forum but it's still 'slowest on the web' taking about 7-10 seconds to respond to each command. At least now we can see the whole topic w/all posts which was impossible w/ old system; going back and forth took forever! Some icons are very small and it took me several minutes to find how to display the next page(s); used to be all together. Also like the different magazines separated. Generally, it's much better. Will be using this in the future along with the other favorites.

When I tried to preview this response the url error message popped up.[8]

The edit and delete icons are there for you to use if you need to -- it doesn't mean you did something wrong.

The edit icon lets you go back and edit your reply. If you forgot to add something or need to make a correction, that's the purpose of that button.

The delete icon lets you delete your reply. If you posted something and have second thoughts or didn't really want to post the reply, you can delete it.

As for the preview error, I've been trying to figure that one out for awhile now. [}:)]
