Has anyone encountered General Electric staff sniffing around an Electro-Motive Division locomotive in the past?

i dont follow.. is it against the law for company 'a' to buy or possess company 'b's' product? is it stealing to dismantle a competitor's product and see what makes it run? if company 'b's' legal staff is adequate, everything on the loco is patented or protected in some way..

does gm buy a ford to see how it runs? i reckon so, and why not? what is wrong is taking material from an office, either by an employee, or someone hired by 'a' to steal from 'b'..

it is also wrong for an employee to quit from 'a' and work for 'b' by offering trade secrets owned by 'a'..

it is also wrong for 'b' to hire a former employee of 'a', merely to acquire trade secrets known by the employee and owned by 'a'..

all of these situations are wrong, either criminally, or civilly..

I bet you dimes to dollars it does happen, and has happened in the past.

Those 2 locomotive companys are in a race to be tyhe best

If i was purchasing a locomotive i'd go for the GE AC6000 CW because GE makes just about everyhting.. toasters, TVS, DVD players, MOST railroad crossing lights

But i bet A GE representative snoops around an EMD plant and vice versa.. or i can almost garantee it's happened in the past.

if i was buying a loco motive it would be a emd. they will out do anything a ge ever thought of doing and emd has been in buisness longer than ge in the locomotive buisness. and i am still amazed how a ge still get over the road as bad as they run. and break down.

Yea the GE people were looking at the EMD hoping
to learn how to build a locomotive, they were real impressed when they learned that on a EMD its
not nessesary to wedge fusees and/or paper towels
between the consol and the frame to keep it from
shaking apart, they also took notice of the inside
ceiling and marveled that it hadnt fallen down or
had been taped up with duct tape, another thing
they just couldnt believe, there wasnt any oil
on the outside walkway I think they went away
thinking that we had faked that EMD loco,
