Supposedly due to the Conrail merger. Hmmm. Seems like they're also clinging on to their past at the same time! It's done for accounting/tax purposes....the PRR marks are actually owned by NS. I saw a high nose GP38-2 with SOU above the numbers on the cab. The lead GP38-2 (low nose) had NS. I don't think there is any sinister plot here. As for the UP updating the paint scheme on a NEW locomotive, so what. It is not a museum display. Even BNSF has varied the "heritage" paint scheme. Reply Anonymous Member sinceApril 2003 305,205 posts Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 3:41 PM UP's dressing up a handful of SD70ACe's in "fallen flag" colors turns an otherwise ugly locomotive into an interesting work of art. Is the two tone MoPac and WP schemes supposed to represent the early, and later paint schemes of both railroads? I initially the locomotives would be in one scheme, and not a combination of two. Are there plans to paint an SD70ACe in Rock Island colors? Using the red and black with "wings" on the front end would be classy. Using the Rocket passenger scheme would be interesting. Hopefully UP won't do a combination of two shades of maroon, yellow nose, and bilboard lettering with the "R" and "I" being larger than the rest of the railroad's name. [:(] Given the color combinations on the Rock during the final years, that may be more "authentic," but not attractive. I am happy that the UP is doing this but I would much rather see a CNW AC4400CW rolling down the line instead of a CNW SD70ACe which probably won't be painted meeting the old CNW standards.
