GE's Annual Report - Digital RR, Evolution, etc.

Just got GE's annual report today. FYI here is the rail-related info they included:

1. GE Evolution Locomotive - 16 cyliners' worth of HP with only 12. Orders placed for more than 1200 units (did not identify which railroads)

2. Digital Railroad - navigation software controlled by GE's Precision Dispatch System. Norfolk Southern is the first customer, and is targeting a speed increase of 1 to 3 mph...

3. Hybrid Locomotive. Still in development. Energy dissipated during braking would be captured in batteries for later use.

Great news, in every respect. Particularly awed by the digital announcement and particularly pleased by the hybrid.

They really did play up the "green" aspect of their products.

CONCERNING THE Hybrid Locomotive: GE has been testing their hybrid locomotive on various short line railroads in and around the northern PA and Upper New York region since the summer of 04. According to the railsources I have talked to--GE is going after the market that has been successfully penetrated by the green goat hybrid locomotive.

Question: EMD has recently shipped their first SD-70Ace locomotive to the Union Pacific. Does anyone know if Ge has shipped thier first producion GEVO locomotive to any railroad yet ?

To answer your question, yes, GE is in current production on the "GEVO" units. I do not know the 1st production date. Hope this helps.
