OH, you'll see it soon enough, and to me it kind of reminds me of the way the old Ford Torino on Dukes of Hazard was painted...let's call the new BNSF paint scheme..."THE GENERAL LEE" paint scheme, how about it?[;)]

I truly love it just to hear other people complain about it.
If any RR should ger a new Paint it should be the UP!

While I am not a big fan of UP, I will say that yellow and Harbor Mist Gray still looks great after all these years. The modified BNSF colors aren't that bad, either.

Great Googy moogy! O.K, The Dukes drove the GENRAL LEE which was a Dodge Charger. There were 13 "hopped up" Dodge Chargers used on the show, for obvious reasons.

The "Gran Torino" was used in Starsky & Hutch, and known as the "Big Red Tomato".

When the UP is clean, I don't think there's a current paint scheme thats better. At least on Class 1's. The Arkansas and Missouri is absolute class for smaller lines. I guess its personal preference.

HUMMMMMMM. . . .. Someone needs to fill me in on this new paint scheme that BNSF has. But, if it looks anything like what I see above, I might have to have a little chat with BNSF because, that looks down right ugly. I've seen trash cans that had better paint than that.

The new BNSF paint scheme is basically the same as it has been except for some of the yellow stripping. The front of the cab under the new logo scheme lacks some of the yellow stripes that were once around the BNSF letters. The new BNSF logo is the new major design change. Personally, I believe the new lettering is nice.

As for the orange color and design itself, it is distinctive when one sees the engines and highly is recognizable as the trains travel down the tracks. It is unique compared to some of the other engine colors. The Norfolk and Southern is rather plain except for the logo on the front of engine.

I have not seen any of the new logo schemes on any BNSF engines. I live near the BNFS main line (transcontinental) in KS and have not seen any engines with the new logo. I do not live near the track so I don’t see every train going by.

I grew up in Parsons, Kansas where the M.K.&T. (Katy) Railroad’s main line and shops were. The Katy had red engines with white letters and the same was true for the caboose. I believe when John Walker Barriger III was president of the Katy (1965 to 1970) he decided to change the color scheme to green and yellow. Yellow diagonal lines graced the front of the cab.

It was disappointing to see the red color scheme disappear but it was probably a chance to reshape the image of the Katy. One history description of the Katy explained that Barriger’s job was to find a merger partner to buy the Katy. The new paint scheme was probably designed to aesthetically make the Katy look better. Financially, the Katy continued to decline through the 1960’s into the 1980’s until the merger with the Union Pacific.

Most rail buffs probably prefer to seek out Katy memorabilia with red colors.

To the Great Mr. BNSFrailfan:

The “old ugly yellow” has one up on BNSF, and all of us too for that matter.

The UP has achieved IMMORTALITY, which in Greek connotes DEATHLESSNESS. So, no matter how bad the UP management gets, the railroad cannot die (read go bankrupt)!

With that said … I’ll move on … and uncross my fingers …

Union Pacific needs to clean the outside of their engines when they get dirty. The engines would look better.

There is nothing wrong with the yellow.
The flag adds style.

BNSF units look like UTEP uniforms? Maybe the BNSF is taking a page from the Monon's Purdue and Indy schemes.

Still I wouldn't mind seeing more NCAA-inspired paint schemes. CSX could use Vandy's colors. NS could take it's pick of southern schools, but I think the big diesels would look kinda funny in North Carolina's baby blue plad. UP's already got the gold going on so maybe they are Cal fans. CN bought Wisconsin Central and they already have the Badger's red and white in their paintjobs. Wisconsin Southern could do okay with Milwaukee's black and gold. Haha Just so long as they don't do Marquette's blue and gold.

Go UWM Panthers!

Yes the UPRR paint scheme is as legendary as Armstrongs walk on the moon. The BNSF has no history to match it. The former ATSF maybe could with the war bonnets though[:D][:D]

Several railroads have openly used college colors on their locomotives. DM&IR admitted that their colors were based on University of Minnesota. Monon's colors were based on Purdue and Indiana Universities. Terminal Railroad Alabama State Docks painted its switchers in Alabama and Auburn colors. Paducah & Louisville had one locomotive each in Louisville and Kentucky colors.
