Wrong side of the tracks?

Check this from this morning's paper:

Perhaps the residents of Marina Bay need a Wal-Mart . . . on their side of the tracks.

If the residents are waiting for the caboose to pass on those BNSF trains then they are probably still waiting at the crossing.

Sounds like the trains were there before the condos and the people living in them made the choice to live there. I'm going out on a limb here but if the trains are such a problem, I bet there's other places to move to. In the meantime, just let 'em sit there and look for the caboose.

If they don't like living there, then they can move. I will go and buy a house there just so i can watch them all the time [:D] If their city government wants somthing donr then they should build an overpass like they were looking into. Propose a short term sales tax hike to pay for it, im sure the residents would go for it. The article quote was right, the trains were there first. And the people need to suck it up and deal with it, or leave. How stupid can people get?

Amusing....

(1) Typical Bay Area "Whine & Geez" party at granola bowl central.

(2) Short Term Institutional Memory Failure: Santa Fe lost it's Oakland District in 1980 following these same clowns fighting the railroad's plans to upgrade.

(3) The surviving route is very restrictive in it's geometry. You cannot go faster than 10 MPH without a major line change. They had a chance to modify things following the 1989 World Series earthquake (The Cypress/ 580 Structure fell on the line in two places, trapping a local switching "The Emporium"'s warehouse) - They failed...

(4) Same folks fought upgrading traffic safety by replacing a wig-wag with flashers, bells and gates in Richmond.

Too cheap to pay for a grade separation and the seriously overpaid county (lack of) planning department could not get the get-rich-quick developers to build it before proceding with the redevelopment. Endemic of why people flee California in droves.

The morons in local government and the morons buying the condos deserve each other.

I wondered how long it would take the whole selfless 9/11 attitude to wear off... Guess it's about time. Now we can get back to really important things to complain about... Like those *** trains getting in the way... I also really hate it when somebody leaves the cap off the tooth paste... And I don't even want to count how many times people have left their shopping carts blocking a parking space I want. Think I'll call my local news station... Maybe they can do an investigative report.

Old story, new location. Tracks (or airport) exists somewhere. Idiots move next to it. Idiots complain. Myabe they should try saying they were (and probably are) too stupid to know what tracks are used for before they moved there. It is time to take the brain out of the jar and put it into the head.

We have the same the problem with towers. We build our tall towers out in the middle of nowhere, where they will not bother anyone. Then everyone moves in next to the towers and then complain they want our multi-million dollar towers moved somewhere else! Hello did you not notice the two thousand foot tower when you were buying your land? Zeeesshh - idiots.

Maybe they could do a follow up and ask the crews of the trains if they get nervious looking out the cab windows and seeing idiots all around when they go through this neighborhood.

Bad idea. The towl would probably be so large that it'd have to be shipped by rail and would only cause more grief. Hmmm. More griew for idiots. Ok, so it's not such a bad idea after all.

I think they all moved there to spy on the railroad operations. Call the gumshoes to investigate.

Nothing the next major earth quake couldn't handle. See "The Last Days of the Great State of California". Good reading while waiting for the caboose.[:o)][:o)][:o)]

Look with those people bought their new homes or condo's they must have surely know of the BNSF moves thru town. If not I guess the situation comes under the "buyer beware"comment you hear about all the time. You know they say all the fruits & nuts in world are in California so they should have check things I guess more thoughly then they did[:D]

The community should raise property and sales taxes temporarily to raise enough to build an overpass. In the meantime, they can hold a lottery, and guess the date and time the caboose will come by.

I actually got a chuckle out of that article. Sounds a lot like BS on their part. They should have known that when they moved there.

Maybe they can get the Starship Enterprise to beam them over to the other side.

That caboose probably has it's cloaking device on. It's them darn Klingons that they don't want around. Not the trains. Yeah!! That's what it is.

Speaking of cabooses, a few of these people sound like they could use a good kick in theirs!

Actually, I'm quite sure that BNSF would be more than willing to reroute their line someplace else...provided that the residents in this area agree to pay them the $100 million required to do so!

Did it ever occur to these morons just why the area had been an industrial zone?

We have a similar situation here in central Minnesota...city people move in next to still active dairy farms, complain like you wouldn't believe about "the smell." Well, the "smell" was there when you bought the place! No mercy for the CA people...it's the price you pay for living in a former industrial area.

I was assisant city engineer for a Milwaukee suburb, where there still are a few farms. I will never forget the person who called in to ask what the city could do about the farm next door. I asked what the problem was, and they said "they have cows". I again asked the problem, and they said "they smell bad". That farm was there for over 100 years. They just built that house in 199. I askedif they knew the farm was htere when they built the house. They said "yes, but it didn't smell then". Must have been in December.

Given that the trains were there LONG before the condos, they sure don't have to like the trains, but they sure as hell have to live with them...or perhaps these rich folks could scrape enough money together to put an underpass under the tracks at some point and solve their own problem...but wait, they would then have to enjoy caviar only three times a week instead of four...boo, hoo, hoo!

Looks like a community of 5000 people would have organized a fire department.
Small towns all across America have done so. I feel for them about a possible
blocked EMS vehicle, but they knew / should have known about the problem.
They certainly know what the fix is. Build the overpass, and quit blaming BNSF.!!!
And let the railroads continue to serve America.[:)]

They probably didn't think anything of it when they had to wait for a train on the way over to look at their potential new home. And the real estate agent probably told them "it doesn't happen often..."

If they're part of the city, they could probably try to talk the city fathers into putting a fire station there - oh, wait - fire department funding has been cut and they're closing a couple of stations - well, I guess not.

I kinda have to laugh at this, its like buying a great house only to find its under the landing approach for the airport. Didnt they do any research before buying? The ONLY way this is going to get fixed is but building an overpass, Shheeeiiittt, this is marina side property, they can afford to help pay for it!
