Good movie now on DVD

SONY just released on Feb 22 a DVD version of "It happened to Jane" starring Doris Day, Jack Lemmon and Ernie Kovacs. It was discussed in this forum recently. It's about a single mom trying to raise two kids selling lobsters that have to be shipped by rail. It should be available soon at your favorite DVD outlet.

That's great to hear, I don't believe it was ever released on videotape, at least I could not find it.

Good luck attempting to find it at your video rental store! The manager at mine never heard of or seen Bonanza, Hawaii Five-0, Perry Mason, Charlie Chan, or I Love Lucy...... As far as she is concerned, nothing entertaining existed before 1990......

I used to work at a video store (I won't say the name except that it starts with a Block and ends with a Buster [;)]) and we actually had a pretty good stock of old B&W movies, we even got all of the Charlie Chan movies on DVD about six months before I quit. I think the main problem is that alot of the old movies are now out of print on VHS (yuck) and have yet to be printed on DVD. Really the thing is all of the studios that own the rights to those movies shot themselves in the foot by putting most of those out on Laser Disk, but then it died so now they have been waiting until they know that DVD is going to be here to stay. Since DVD has now taken the market over all of the old stuff is coming back, but until then if you really want an old B&W movie the way to go is Laser Disk (they are dirt cheap on E-bay), that is the only way that I am able to find half of the old movies that I want.

Here's another good movie on DVD - "Narrow Margin" with Gene Hackman and Anne Archer.

This flick was shot in Canada and centers about the bad guys trying to get at Anne Archer - and then Gene, aboard a VIA Rail train bound for Vancouver. Some great shots of the train - inside and out. The movie has been on VHS for years - but the DVD version is relatively new.

VIA Rail is my preferred method of travel when in Canada and my wife and I have a few miles with them - two round trips between Toronto and Vancouver; well over a dozen trips between Montreal and Halifax, etc. So watching this particular movie gives double pleasure - not a bad story and great train "stuff"!!
