The IC units probably were on the train from it's intial station. The engines would stay with the train to save time, they railroads just have to change off crews. If the train went into the yard to be remarshalled or to get new power that could cost the IC up to 1 day delay on the traffic.
This starting to become common among class 1 rr's, we always just change crews with the NS at Buffalo, leaving the engines right on the train.

I've recently seen Illinois Central locomotives in Norfolk Southern's KC yard and just tonight leaving UP's Armourdale yard(probably after delivering auto racks from NS-this move happens several times a day). Does anyone know of a recent haulage rights or trackage rights or any other kind of agreement between NS and IC. Or could they just be leased power? I'd appreciate any info. Terry
