have you memorizied what time the trains come through. i just wondered because i would like to
get pictures. do you no the best place to take pictures around peru , indiana. i usaly take pictures at benton street yard.

Andrew: N&S doesn't run any trains on a regular schedule but the heaviest traffic time frames are around 8AM to 11AM and 4PM to 8pm . Please note that Some days are heavier than others so the best thing is patience. As for the best place it is just to the west of the bridge over Broadway and either side of the tracks (depending on the sun) in the open field (the old Wabash yard). If you are interested in exploring abandoned railroads, I know there was a C&O line that once came through Peru. The last time I was up there (about three years ago), there were quite a few old railroad buildings, abandoned yards, and the roadbed could be traced all the way northeast, up to North Judson and towns like that. Also at one time an electric interurban ran through Peru--although I think it was torn up in the 40's.

Hi. I know the area you are talking about. The bad news is that Everything was taken down., including the coaling tower. Now the area has a bowling alley and hiking trail and lots of weeds. also the NKP track from Argos to Kokomo has been abandoned and pulled up (this was the second oldest track in Indiana). One side note is the same track from Kokomo to Tipton is in limited use but N&S closed off the crossover (Frankfort to Ft. Wane) from Tipton to Indianapolis but the Indiana Transportation Museum has the track from Tipton to Indy.

That's interesting to know. Thanks. Another interesting area is up by Monterey and North Judson. The old Erie-Lackawanna has been preserved between those two towns and some local interest still operates the line. There is a museum in North Judson that owns an old Kanwanha steamer. The rest of the line has been abandoned, as far as I know. Leiter's Ford has plenty of old trackage, stations, etc/
