Lots of trains in Deshler this weekend.  Woke at 0200 to a train waiting to get out on the E/W from the SW wye as two westbounds raced each other (one on each track).  Before I fell back asleep, another train came 'round the SE wye...

It was cool to see 911 coming through town Friday.

Back to trainwatching.  Maybe I'll put the drone up again today.

(normally - that could be a whole month's worth of rain out here .... Gotten 3" in 10 days in June so far ...we're almost giddy, but also aware that the snowmelt is just now kicking-in and Monsoon Season has not kicked-in yetConfused)

As green around here as I've ever seen it.

Around here it is the middle Georgia rain forest.  trees hanging down every where especially over streets .  Every taller vehicle knocks limbs and leaves scratching their paint.  Cannot keep all my head knockers cut.

In need of moisture in Central Maryland - got 0.08 inches yesterday (Wednesday) but much more is needed.

I believe there is some headed your way - lots of reds and yellows, though.

We really got dumped on  -  0.01 inches at the house [/sarcasm]

Chat on the Deshler railcam indicated some heavy weather there Thursday afternoon - with damage in some areas of Ohio.

Hopefully the severe weather will be out of it's system by the time I get there Saturday.  I've gotten slammed on three different visits.

Pretty much all packed - just a few things to gather and get loaded on the truck.

Way overdue local weather report:  For most of NorCal temps are in the 70s this week with no significant precip forecast. Some reservoir water levels have peaked (Shasta 97%, Oroville 100%). Trinity is up to 57%; in SoCal the required pumping has only got Diamond Valley up to 72%.

Loaned to the state highway department making railroad decisions? (and you thought it was in the shop for new batteries all this time)

Like our shop would have batteries.

I have to give our state DOT credit - they're on our side.  In fact, our long-time DOT contact retired and now serves on our board.  I've been working with him on our radio system.

Made an official trip (via hi-rail) to Tupper Lake Friday.  Now I need one trip in the seat and I'll be qualified on the territory.  That'll make about 130 miles.  Not bad for a tourist railroad.

Where's my magic qualifying wand at?

Track department for any railroad in the state of Colorado is out chasing raindrops tonite. The toy train people at RTD would be smart to be out as well. Next few days ought to be interesting as rain and snowmelt combine.

I've been over the northern section before - in fact, in my records for territory qualified I'm already qualified - but that was at 10 MPH.  We can now run at 40 MPH for most of it.

Would the Denver water tunnel associated with Moffet tunnel count as separate?  23 miles for it cerainly longer.

From reading the article, it seems the writer is talking about highway tunnels.  I know -- he doesn't say that, but I'm pretty sure that's what he meant.

Don't be too hard on the writer.  Except for those of us in the hobby or the business, most people are unaware of the existence of the Moffat Tunnel.  Prior to the 1994 flood, the freight tunnels forty feet below downtown Chicago were virtually unknown, even when they were in service.

Here is a classic case of journalistic incompentence.  How do we ding such a person properly?

Ding them properly?  What does that even mean?  You could send them a polite note correcting them.

Wait - you mean they still have trains?  Thought those went away years ago (except those that keep wrecking...).

or blocking road crossings!
