Mike could certainly find some amazing stuff, which I greatly enjoyed reading.  May God hold Mike's soul in the palm of His hand.

Likely repeated violations of TOS and IP rights.

Maybe.  Mike's beyond caring at this point.

And if you don't want people using it, why put it on the Web to begin with?

Didn't he scan a lot of the stuff himself?

We never heard the whole story, and I doubt we ever will.

Honestly Zug, I don't know.  If that was the case his house must have been packed from attic to basement with the rare and obscure.

He DID have an absolute genius for finding what no-one else could!

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

I'm wondering if Kalmbach didn't get a cease and desist order from one of the copyright owners of the materials Wanswheel kept showing on here.  Or were afraid they were going to get one.

Most likely they were afraid they were going to get one.  The thing is most of what Mike pulled up was so old and obscure I'd have been surprised if the current copyright owners were even aware they held the copyright. Which would mean someone would have to tip them off that they did and the material was being used without permission.

And if you don't want people using it, why put it on the Web to begin with?

Ah, no point going down that rathole again.

Being a publishing company at heart, I'm guessing they have to/want to be a little more vigilant on those manners than your typical forum.

Usually followed by complaints about how such information should be available and condemning Kalmback for "censoring" it.

He certainly had a talent for locating obscure materials related to many subjects we discussed here.  I miss his contributions.

As for "over moderation", I hope some of you who hit the "report" button everytime you see something that unsettles you, might contemplate that kicking a sleeping dog frequently has unanticipated consequences.

MidlandMike

Hard to believe he has been off the forum for 4 years.  Seems like just yesterday he was contributing some historical context to these discussions.

Mike (Wanswheel) McDnald  was truly, a loss to this Forum and its membershp...He was missed, and a number pof members seemed to be convinced he was taken out by what could have been considered
"overmoderation".Sigh.. That story will probably not be told?
MIke and I served about the same time in R.V.N.  He was a Comm Officer  in U.S.A.,  and I was a 'grunt' in U.S.M.C.   Shared experiences, yet different experiences...We communicted, and had some common ground....
Mike will be missed...R.I.P. Mike... God Bless....

Tracked through my PM's and found I only had one conversation with Mike, at the time he was 'booted' off the Forum in 2018.  I can only feature that he provided too much information to a hierarchy that couldn't handle the truth.

Research on Mike!

He added a whole lot to this forum.  I don't know why he was tossed off.

I've missed his contributions.

Rest in Peace With God Michael MacDonald.

Sad news folks.  Michael MacDonald, who we all knew here as "Wanswheel," passed away July 6th.  I don't know about the rest of you but I've missed his contributions tremendously and I'll miss our e-mailings to one another.

Here's his obituary.

Rest in peace Mike. Ride easy on the "Night Train" to a greater dawn.
