This seemed like an uphill battle from the get go.  Too bad the owners weren't able to sell the equipment before the vandels got to it.

Never mind the recession, the terms "scenic railroad" and "population center" seem to be mutually exclusive, making getting riders to the railroad a real challenge.

We are fortunate that our station is on a state highway that serves as a conduit to the central Adirondacks, and is near a popular spot for vacationers and day-trippers.  And just a little way out of town, you're right in the middle of the Adirondack forest.

Our longer trains run out of Utica, hard by the NYS Thruway, so have an easier audience to attain.

Of course, it helps to have a friendly host, but with virtually zero traffic, no railroad is going to be interested in keeping the line.

About an ill-fated attempt to start up a tourist train. Turns out 2008 and the Great Recession were not kind to this operation: https://jalopnik.com/this-vintage-train-rotting-in-the-woods-of-tennessee-ha-1847763791
