Waiting to see how far the thermometer drops into the basement on Monday night. Threatening 93 degrees down to 28 degrees in about 12 hours.

We're getting occasional tastes of fall, with the temps in the 40's overnight.  But it's supposed to warm back up again.

That dreaded term "lake effect" is starting to show up in forecasts.  At least it's lake effect rain...

Took it easy for Labor Day.  I did make a trip to town to pick up several things, including "picnic" fixin's.

The folks in Deshler, OH, enjoyed a chicken BBQ put on by the fire department.  You could see the line-up for the drive-thru sales on the Deshler rail cam.

A fire department in the Adirondacks gave away their usual truck on Sunday (the "two buck truck")  I didn't win, but I don't think I ever got a ticket this year as the RR didn't run so I was rarely in that area.

Darn.  Mine has 220,000 miles on it.  Time to start thinking about a replacement.

Cowabunga!!! It has arrived Mr. Joe.

Went from 94 degrees Monday to 30-35 degrees with snow, snizzle and rain on Tuesday.  Snow expected to continue until noon Wednesday. Trees are taking a beating and the 'hood is now blue tarp & tent city.

This year's model of ditchfinders comes complete with a reservations system for proper social distancing in the ditches for Texans, Californians and anyone else not experienced in winter driving (including the inevitable losers driving around on baloneyskins) ....pulled the company truck off the street as a defensive parking measure.

Quiet day today - didn't sleep well after a meeting last night.  Too much politics.

Had a visit from a census enumerator today.  I did mine on-line ages ago.  She was looking for my neighbor.  And she's a friend.  I was able to help her out, though.  Crossed another one off her list.

For the last two days we've been back to chunky style air in the inland SFBA. Very wierdly, the smoke in upper atmospheric layers from far distant fires has been transported here and the worse AQI (light purple level) is right next to the bay (SF and Oakland).

At least the temps have dropped back to almost fall levels from record heat (~105 F !!) last weekend. Very ready for some wind and sprinkles to disburse the smoke ....

EDIT: Today, Sat 9/12 at 1:30 local the Tehachapi cams have special coverage. See http://cs.trains.com/trn/f/111/t/284209.aspx

Fall-like temperatures today - frost warning to the north of us, and a promise of colorful sunsets due to the smoke blowing in from the west coast.

Probably ought to change the oil in the snowblower...

Tonight we're supposed to have a low in the 60s, and it won't go up much above that tomorrow.  However, it seems to have made it into the upper 80s here today, so our new a/c unit will have one last fling tonight.

Between the usual research work, a futile yard project (digging out the remnants of an old fencepost before planting the new one), and not feeling well due to the new medication I'm getting used to (at least I hope it's that--the side effects mimic Coronavirus!), I've not felt like doing much lately.  If my fever hasn't gone down by tomorrow, I won't be able to go to the Peck House for my usual shift.

Tonight we're supposed to have a low in the 60s,

Tonight's forecast for the Adirondacks calls for the possibility of a hard freeze.  Getting to be time to cover up those tomatoes.
