While not Irish, I do like corned beef and I like cabbage.  But I must confess St. Patrick's Day has not been one of celebration for me due to the events of March 17, 1975.

But if you are referring to something personal, then, obviously, it's none of our business.

By the way, I am reading a book called Hogger, and there is reference to a trainman/conductor named Stuart "Red" Hergert, who worked on the Milwaukee Road in Iowa, I believe in the 40s and 50s. Any relation? I've just begun the book, but it seems quite good, written by a Richard Peterson. I'll write a review later.

Not being Irish, I never understood why the Irish make such a big deal to honor an Englishman.

 

He, a Roman Briton, was kidnapped by Irish pirates when he wasa boy, and enslaved. Afer escaping, he went to Rome, where he became a Christian. As a grown man, he returned to Ireland, and brought Christianity there.
