Not being Irish, I never understood why the Irish make such a big deal to honor an Englishman.
Corned beef is in the slow cooker! Part Irish.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!

No-no, paisan, Saint-a Patrick was-a da ROMAN!
Just a little ethnic pride from the other side of me kickin' in, hence the "Imperial Purple." OK, Patrick was a Roman Briton, but why split hairs?

And don't forget the legend that he banished all snakes from Ireland. Although I wonder how the Irish railroads could switch cars without snakes.
While not Irish, I do like corned beef and I like cabbage. But I must confess St. Patrick's Day has not been one of celebration for me due to the events of March 17, 1975.

Simple. Neither NBRU nor Unite have a prominent S in their logo...

What happened in 1975?
But if you are referring to something personal, then, obviously, it's none of our business.
By the way, I am reading a book called Hogger, and there is reference to a trainman/conductor named Stuart "Red" Hergert, who worked on the Milwaukee Road in Iowa, I believe in the 40s and 50s. Any relation? I've just begun the book, but it seems quite good, written by a Richard Peterson. I'll write a review later.
I think he meant the Hillcrest bombing but got the date off by a year.
