I like using our road power for the locals when I work them.  Why?  Better heat and cupholders.

I am not a railroader and have never operated a locomotive but I have heard the visibity is horrible on road units from several railroaders. So, I‘m just curious to how much that balances out.

Replace all those GE P40's and P42's with EMD E or F units or Alco PA's.

It depends on whether Metra exercises its option for an additional 27.  At any rate, I would assume that the SD70MACH's will stay home on BNSF.  The F59PHI's are currently being assigned to the ex-MILW and WC lines.  The MP36's and newer F40's will be bumped to other lines and the oldest F40's will be put out to pasture.

Me, too, Paul!  But where will they be used?  There are only 15 of them coming, and over 100 F40s to put to pasture.

I'm willing to wait for Metra to receive its SD70MACH's.  They seem like suitable successors to SDP35/40/45's.

I'll put in my two cents:  Either an Alco DL109 A & B, or FM Train Master.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Given the difference in power, I would rather ride behind (or in front of) a P42 over an F59. During my commute by Amtrak time, the P42's were noticely faster than the F59's.
