Over at the model railroader forums, there is a thread called "Show Me Something". I wonder if we could start a thread like that for Trains. below are the rules:
This is a place where forum members can post their photos featuring a view of a "requested" scene or object.
If you show the scene requested you can then make a request of your own or choose to stay with the current request. If you do not make a request, than the last one is still in effect.
Your photos should be of a real train only, not a model scene. After 24 hours, if the requested scene has not been posted, anyone is welcome to make a submission of their own choice of subject and then make the next request. It's all about having fun! Let's see those photos!

Nope, never saw that 4 unit lashup picture before. That's quite a thing. It appears the French built trailing unit is not powered. Is this correct. Would a lashup like this function well? Was it on a system tour, showcasing the X996?
How about a temporary block operator?
Not the greatest quality photo, from probably 2005ish (judging from the F150). Doens't seem like that long ago when I took it.

Would a lashup like this function well?
Function about as well with X996 pans down as it would with them up. (Rimshot)
Seriously, I think pans are not up for MU, but some other reason. This is a power move to an IEEE conference display when the CC21000 was still technically 'in the running' for the Corridor repower ... it's interesting to consider if it would have performed better on fully-rebuilt high-speed track implemented by non-set-aside contractors.

The only time I saw green flags was in February of 1964 or 1965--the IC ran a second section of the Louisane, carrying people to New Orleans for Mardi Gras.

I think the way it's supposed to work is that the person who 'answers' the previous show-me challenge then proposes the next one -- I see I didn't do that. I think that's a bit more fun than what we've been doing, interesting as that promises to be. Ed, why don't you ask an upcoming 'show me ...' to get the ball rolling again.
I propose we start an 'answer' by quoting the previous 'show me a ... ' line and then providing the picture, followed by the next question as its own easy-to-quote line starting with 'show me...'

My observation on this photo is that if the engineer leans out any further, he may be headed toward the ground and the hoop is not high enough for him to snag it.

My observation on this photo is that if the engineer leans out any further, he may be headed toward the ground and the hoop is not high enough for him to snag it.
My observation is if he leaned out any further out the window, he would probably get stuck. I know I would.

I've never had the pleasure of grabbing orders. However, I did get to "hand them up" a couple of times. 40+ years ago on the Rock Island at Marengo, Iowa on the siding, the main track had a fixed train order stand.
I have a couple of Y train order delivery forks. I did a couple of demonstrations of the procedure over at the Boone & Scenic Valley about 15 or so years ago. Not quite the same as handing up real train orders, though.
When I was stationed at Chanute AFB in Illinois (early 70'd) I often hung around the IC/ICG station downtown. I think it was still directional running at the time (it's single track now), so any crossing over required a train order. Rantoul had a crane (two forked sticks that swung down after the order was grabbed), but occasionally the station agent would have to hoop orders up as well.
Never saw anyone miss - which would have involved stopping to get the paper.

Well, it's pulling freight cars. M&E in baggage cars is something different. There are plenty of examples (PRR, EL, and LV come immediately to mind) where locomotives we typically associate only with passenger service (and with some reason!) were used in freight service ... the PRR use of E units on TrucTrains, without automatic back transition to everyone's eventual sorrow, being a pointed example.
What I wanted was a picture of the UPS Z-train testing behind Genesis locomotives, but I couldn't find one posted. So can someone show me one?
