If they follow through on the promise, I suspect this will be primarily soybeans. And then the question is, can the railroads handle the increased traffic or will we discover a shortage of cars or new capacity choke points. Because I also suspect that is a lot of soybeans tonnage wise.
If the Chinese keep their promise it might mean less than you would think in terms of railroad hauls. Of the top 10 soybean producing states, 8 of them are on the Mississippi/Ohio/Missouri Rivers, so you have a short haul to river barges for transport down to New Orleans for export. Just 2 states, IL and IA, account for 1/3 of the crop.
