Will the NIMBY's come out of the woodwork?
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
From time to time TRAINS has posted items referencing the Congestion on the BNSF line at its Lake Pend Oreille crossing on a single bridge. Received an e-mail request from BNSF regarding a meeting as a step in the process of getting a second parallel bridge, Ok'd and construction started on this lonmg needed project.
Cut & Pasted from the BNSF e-mail release:
BNSF's plan to build a second rail bridge over Lake Pend Oreille next to the existing bridge needs your support. The project will reduce rail congestion, help move freight traffic more efficiently in both directions across the lake, and improve the flow of freight and passenger trains throughout the region. And best of all for area residents, a train that doesn't have to wait its turn to cross a bridge doesn't occupy as much time in grade crossings - which is good news for motorists! On May 23, the Idaho Department of Lands will host a public hearing on the project. You're invited to attend a pre-hearing gathering at 5:00 pm, May 23 at the First Baptist Church in Sandpoint, Idaho, to show your support. Bring the family! Attendees will receive T-shirts, and food and refreshments will be provided.
