I saw a double stack train come through Nashville TN headed south, Chattanooga probably. This is not an unusual event except that it had seven Tropicana Reefers on the end. I thought those only ran on the east coast. I had never seen any Tropicana reefers come through here before.Anybody know what those reefers were doing here?
As of the time I retired in December, Tropicana has 3 destinations, Greenville, NJ is the primary destination for 'The Juice Train'. A block of Trop business is separated at Jacksonville and is destined to a facility in Cincinnati. Another block is separated at Jacksonville and is destined to City of Industry, CA. Needless to say the empties are returned by reverse route.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Balt, do the California-bound reefers go through Pensacola?

Upon further review, I think they stayed with the Cincinnati cars to Fairburn Ramp at Atlanta and were set off and put on one of the intermodal trains out of Fairburn, I believe to New Orleans and then UP beyond.
Lately, thee seem to be an increasing number of BNSF Reefer Cars ( With the Transicold, 'nose' units on one end). BNSF connects with the Southern Transcon here, south of Wichita (Mulvane), and on the 'east' end towards Topeka, and Kansas City area(Gardiner,Ks/ Intermodal Facility).
Seems that many of the 'Merchandise/Mixed' trains' are populated with at least a half dozen reefers, some times more. TOFC Reefer trailers are pretty well represented; they seem to have more and more, coming from the west with their reefer units running ( at night, the led's on their controls are very evident).
I don't recall the train symbol but this train passed through Hulsey in Atlanta every day

Before EHH took over at CSX, I used to see 5-10 Tropicana cars come thru Tallahassee headed west on the morning (usually) intermodal train for (I assume) New Orleans. The returning cars would be on eastbound intermodal/autorack trains. Since EHH took over, sightings are more erratic but I still see some.
Off topic, CSX now seems to be tacking some carload traffic on the front of the intermodal trains; haven't seen any open hoppers on these trains, so don't know if the tacked-on cars are loaded. A year or two ago, and further back, CSX would sometimes run fairly short (50-75 cars) autorack trains eastbound, but haven't seen them lately. Almost never see westbound autoracks thru here; assume they go from Jacksonville to Waycross for distribution.
