High wide hits ground
Posted by blue streak 1 on Saturday, February 18, 2017 1:02 PM

Even with all the planning high wides can derail as well.  this happened in Scranton RR unknown but is that loco an RS-3 ?  WAS this was a multi RR move ?  How is the insurance for such moves usually set up ?

Must have been a slow news day. I see one truck on the ground.

No big fat hairy deal.

I got the feeling that the news reader was disappointed that he couldn't say the derailment happened at 120 MPH with HAZMAT spill and square miles of residents evacuated.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

...but is that loco an RS-3 ?

D-L is known for being all ALCo.  They have three RS-3s that I know of, and are known for running "the triplets" together.  I could hear the RS-3 running in the video, and it looked like it wasn't sitting exactly level...

The derailment wasn't far from Steamtown, and if they were headed for Jessup, they were about to pass through Nay Aug tunnel.

That is a former CNJ RS-3. Not only is the D-L big on Alcos but they tend to paint their locos in their original paint schemes with D-L sub-lettering. They have ex-Erie Lackawanna C425s that wear their original EL paint schemes. If you happen to catch them out on the road on this former EL mainline it is just like being back in time to the 60's - 70's

There's still some few in BCR paint...

Not all-alco.  They do have that EMC and a GP8 I think?

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.
