The former Vice President and Senator Tom Carper riding north today.
Genius Wanswheel!
Too bad they didn't send the 4-4-0 down from the Wilmington and Western for the head-end power. Would have been a great send-off for him and I'm sure he would have loved it.
Yeah, I know it's the "Acela," but for a friend like Joe Biden Amtrak could have done something a little extra.
My favorite from the VP Biden (archived) twitter feed. Gets done being VP, hops on a train and goes home.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.

A pefect way to end your career.
An unpretentious exit to a lifetime of public service. Something that we won't see from the current inhabitant of the Executive Mansion.
Mr. Biden first went to the Senate in 1972. Yes, his time there amounts to "a lifetime of public service", but I'm not at all sure that is a record to be admired. It seems to me that having one of the premier jobs in a state's political organization permanently in one person's hands leads to constipation in government. My own state has term limits on all significant state elective positions, and I think we would extend that to our federal officeholders had we the ability to do so.
That said, one has to admire Mr. Biden for commuting on Amtrak for all of those years. I wonder just how many trips he has taken or how many miles he has riden.

Some would argue that elections serve as term limits.

In some election districts - in others not so much.

I hear that claim a lot, but it seems that most voters disagree with you. There IS a 6 year limit on Senate service but voters are allowed to send them back for another term and most of the time they do just that.

Term limits (including the 22nd Amendment) are a way of restricting the choices of the voters. It's also an admission that the proponents of said restrictions that they don't have the ability to put up a viable candidate who could attract enough voters from the officeholder they can't otherwise defeat.
I think the senior senator from my state is now in his seventh term. When he first ran for the office, he said that the incumbent (in his third term?) had represented the state too long.

Listen to the video ‘Joe Biden takes the Amtrak home.’ He says, “I’ve made over…they actually calculated this…8,200 round trips, over 2,100,000 miles on Amtrak.”
Since the topic is term limits--
I've long been on the fence about term limits, but because of recent local events I've decided that the best form of term limits is aggressive investigative reporting. After our 175 year old newspaper (New Orleans) announced cutting publication to three times a week, the Baton Rouge paper announced that they would publish a daily New Orleans edition. Each paper allied with a local TV station and both teams began agressive investigative reporting. Since then several local officials with 20 or 30 years in office have either gone to jail or resigned in disgrace.
The trouble with term limits is that you can lose some good people. The trouble with no limits is that the voters become complacent, and the office holders can develop a sense of entitlement and invicability.

Agreed - but it also means that some other good people might get a chance to get in.
And if you take away retirement and health benefits, they might not get quite so comfortable even then.
Maybe just a "thank you" stipend when they leave - not enough to live on, just enough to make it worth their while to have served.
As was noted in the movie "Dave," and in several recent meme's, it's just a temp job. Or should be.

Term limits are prohibited by incumbits partys. Once a Dem or a GOP is in the local party boss will not let you run against a incumbit if you are in the same party. Case in point Trump who is a Dem had to change partys to run against the sitting party and thus run as a GOP.
