I have found the hertiage history of CR to be interesting. When they ended, that closed out the old school era of US rrs. My interest is the western end of the system (MI, IL, IN, OH). My question is on the Conrail society. Thinking of a 2017 membership. Anyone have comments on their publications? If they cover the eng fleet and features of former workers, this may be an investment worth for atleast a yr
With a lack of interest showing of CRHS I'm guessing there is little interest or its a lousy group. Doubt then I will sign up for a membership.

Belonged an long time ago. They had a nice glossy paper news letter and offered up some decent info. Seems it was several pages long, but that was 20 + years ago.
It might help if at least the name were spelled correctly. As posted, Contrail, it sounds like a airplane historical society. Conrail.

Every group has its high points and its low points. While there's been little response here, that just means that there's been little response here.
I'd suggest that you pony up for a year's membership. If they don't meet your expectations, don't renew.

Were you a member of the now-defunct Conrail Technical & Historical Society? That was an organization (or pretty much a one man show from what I understand) that is long gone. The Conrail Historical Society is the current group.
I've been a member of the current CRHS. A word to describe them? Inconsistent. It is run by a (relatively) younger group of guys that have full-time jobs, so I guess it is to be expected. Some times they seem very active, then other times they seem to disappear for a while. At times they seemed to lack clear organization (or a case of too few members doing too much). Their publications used to be sporadic (maybe it's better now - I don't know), and desperately needed a decent editor as they were painful to read at times.
Now they seem to be hooked up with that Allentown and Auburn tourist railroad. I don't agree with a lot of their actions, but that's just me. Others seem to enjoy the group. Give it a year and see what you think.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any

Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.
But, but, but,........ I thought he was talking about airplanes.

There is something to be said about "... Taking the teacher out of the school, BUT never being able to take the school out of the teacher..."
You really do make vulgar, nasty postings sometimes.

At least he typed an "o" in the thread title. If he had really mispelled it and used a 'u' the forum police would be in a tailspin about now.
No wonder the forum has only a few females these days.
Put the web address and photos of CONRAIL in your posts, please.

The entire N. E. rail system was going up in smoke. Out of the contrails came Conrail.
Conrail indeed made history as a massive U. S. government response to a massive collapse in the railroad industry.
