those mirrors are definitely not over-used anymore.  They fell out of favor like the yellow thingies.

Do I have to wear high heels and a tiara, if doing so won't improve my chances of winning the contest?

Only if you have the legs for it.

Next time I do a giveaway, I'll make sure to do it as an essay contest on the finer point of gator foaming while attired in swimwear. ;-)

So, I have to be wearing swimwear while I write the essay?  That may be a bit awkward at work.  But hey!  Free artwork is free artwork. Surely,  my coworkers would understand.  Do I have to wear high heels and a tiara, if doing so won't improve my chances of winning  the contest? How do you secure a tiara on a balding head anyway?

The Great Print Giveaway - Part I (About)
Posted by CopCarSS on Monday, June 6, 2016 2:44 PM

Hey Gang,

So, due to a complex set of events, I find myself in possession of a number of prints that I had planned to display as part of a show that went south in a hurry (and I'm not talking about New Mexico). Having just moved to a much smaller apartment, I really don't have the room for them right now and I don't really know what to do with them. I thought that a print giveaway might be kind of a neat thing to do with my friends who appreciate trains as much as I do.

Before we get to how the giveaway will work, I first want you all to understand what you would be getting. These are traditional RA-4 color prints done with a Lightjet by a professional lab in Denver. I think these will be my last Lightjet prints as I'm hoping to pick up my own archival pigment inkjet printer in the next month or two. The Lightjet was great in its day, but some of the new printers from Canon and Epson just blow the doors off of the RA-4 color prints in terms of gamut and archivability.

Additionally, these are NOT, (I stress NOT) archival prints because of how I mounted them. I had intended for these to be very temporary displays at the show, so I mounted them to self adhesive gatorfoam. Additionally, I'm not pleased with the gatorfoam I got. It's got a lot of imperfections so there are a few bumps and such on the print. From a distance, you will not be able to notice. If you're looking at the images up close, though, it will be apparent. The person that did the mounting didn't do the greatest job, either. Unfortunately I have to look in the mirror to place any blame for that. I'll try to make sure I call out any egregiously bad mountings in my descriptions.

I tried to figure out how to make this fair, and I've come up with the following method. This Thursday at 10:00AM MDT (give or take a few minutes) I will post Part II of this giveaway that will have an image and a short description of the prints I have available. Once I have made my post, I will ask that you send me a Private Message listing which print you would like. I ask that you choose only ONE. If you choose more than one, I will have to ignore all of your requests. Each print will go to the person who first requests it. If you win a print, I will contact you about an address where I can mail them. Also, please allow me a little bit of time to get these all packaged and mailed. I'm doing this on my time and dollar, so it may take me a week or two to get everything out.

I believe there are 18 images, though I will have to double check that when I get home. The gatorfoam mounts are all 12"x18". The actual print area varies a bit based on the aspect ratio of the image. These are all prints of Colorado railroad subjects. I think you have seen most if not all of these. There may be one or two surprises in the lot, though. It's hard to keep track of where I've shared all of my images over the years.

To reiterate:

  1. I have roughly 18 prints that I am giving away.
  2. These are nice prints but are not mounted archivally and the mounting may show a few flaws.
  3. I will post images and descriptions of the prints this Thursday, June 9th, 2016 at 10:00AM MDT. If you need to know how that compares to your time zone, you can ask Google what time it is in Denver and work out the time difference between you and me.
  4. Once I have posted the images and descriptions, you can send me a Private Message request for the print that you'd like the most.
  5. The first response I receive for each print will go to the requester.
  6. If you send me a request that has more than one print listed, I will have to ignore all of your requests.
  7. Please allow a week or two to get these all packed and mailed.

In the interim, if you have any questions, please feel free to post here or Private Message me!

Thanks,

Chris
